I can't believe it took me this frigging long to realize that WOLF leaked
Just finished up with it
I found the album took me a while to get into. While I did enjoy the production on Jamba, lyrically it just didn't say much. The production really lifts it up though and is a great sample of what's to come. Cowboy and Awkward are good as well. Domo 23 shouldn't even be on this album if you ask me. Just a terrible song.
Answer is no doubt one of the best tracks on this album and it's actually a side of Tyler we never seen. This track has a really calm vibe, something past tracks about Tyler's dad didn't have. I mean, the aggression is there but the chorus is just really relaxing.
Another great track is Colossus, in which Tyler relates an experience he had with some fan he met at Six Flags. Not surprisingly, the Stan comparisons started and well, it's nothing but hipsters hipstering. This song is NOTHING like Stan. If writing about a die hard fan means you're copying Stan then I guess every Western movie copied each other because they all talk about Native Americans vs Whites.
Now, usually I'm a fan of Tyler putting 2 songs in one track but on WOLF he puts 3! The problem is, 2 of them are barely ok and you have to wait about 5 minutes to hear one of the albums best offerings, Bimmer. Why Bimmer wasn't a separate track, I don't know. It's easily the Analog 2 of the album. Stupid decision by Tyler to put it with Partyisntover and Campfire
IFHY (HYFR joke?) reminds of me of Goblin's Her. Only this time, where as with Her he was stalking, this time he's talking about someone he's with or used to be with.
Bastard had Tina, Goblin had Bitch Suck Dick, WOLF has Trashwang. And while Bitch Suck Dick was absolute shit, the goofs at Odd Future have never managed to re-capture the epicness of Tina. This is yet another hyped-ass song. There's about 10 people on this track and I'm not so sure who is who.
Speilman is another hype track but it's very aggressive and I like that. Not a great track by any means but not bad at the same time. Treehome95 is a nice relaxing track and actually reminds me a lot of VCR/Wheels 2. Really like it. One of the album's gem.
I fucking adore Tamale! Fucking adore it!
Lastly, Lone (Dr. TC guest stars) closes the album. Tyler knows how to close an album and quite frankly I don't think he could get any better than Goblin's Golden. Lone gives it a run for its money though. I really didn;t think he could have gotten any better than Golden but damn. Listening over to it, there are times when I think that Lone is actually better than Golden. I don't know, it's a close match up. While Golden has a more darker beat, Lone has the more darker story. It's a toss up for sure.
Overall, this is a great album and the long wait was worth it. While Tyler seems to be focusing more on his production, beats and creating more hype tracks, he still knows what brought him to the dance. WOLF does feature a lot more hype tracks than his previous works but even within those tracks, Tyler's style still remains the same.
