Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
One more thing I've gotta address, because I've seen others say things like this too, and I'm trying to figure out why....
"The whole point of hiphop is that it reaches all races, relgiions etc"
Since when? Seriously, THAT'S the whole point of hip hop? You listen to rap music, and THAT'S what you take away? I'm willing to listen, if someone can actually back that up. Where do you get that from?
I think it's more like, music in general is meant to be universal and race, religion, etc. doesn't matter. However, I submit that hip hop is BY FAR the most racially based genre of music, in that "the black experience" is an enormous part of the music. Like, it's not even close. From how it started, why it started, from early records like "The Message"(if you think I mean Nas, just bounce now) to "F The Police" to PE, etc to the rhythms to the slang, to the dress. It's a far more racially based genre of muisc than any others.
Yes it has evolved and changed as everything does, but that shit is still at it's core. It's open to all, no question. But don't come at me saying "it's 2013" as a reason to downplay blackness and give me some kumbaya bullshit about "the point of hip hop is it's for all races, religions".....no, that really never was the point. You made that up. Other genres that blacks created were taken over and basically stolen and the "blackness" was removed from the genre.....it ain't happening again. Know your role.
