People are behind Meek because he has the Ross and the MMG hype currently behind him. No one was checking for Meek before he signed with MMG and when MMG inevitably goes irrelevant, no one will be checking for him then unless he creates his own identity and becomes one of the top rappers in the game.
"Then" there was YMCMB? I'd be shocked if Drakes next album doesn't break 600k week one, and TC5 will probably be in the 600-800k range

Drake has started his own label and is about to leave YMCMB, Nicki won't last much longer and Wayne has gotten to the point in his career where he will always sell. YMCMB is on it's last legs.

Bad Boy & Death Row would've still been on top if their two moneymakers, BIG & Pac didn't die. YMCMB & MMG are most likely still going to be on top. Wayne, Nicki, Tyga, & Drake are 4 powerhouses alone, combined with sideacts like DJ Khaled, Ace Hood, etc. And with MMG Ross is going to be relevant for a while to come as longs as he keeps doing features with YMCMB.
My friend asked in class about 2 weeks ago if anyone heard Tygas new mixtape (I think it was called 187) and we all either said "no" or "he's still around"? Nobody is checking for him.
