A few songs on AOTY sounded too similar to me and didn't catch my interest. I remembered around that time where he released Deadly Medley, I marked out on BM for a while. Was quite disappointed on that album due to hype he put on it, that and his Random Axe faction with Guilty Simpson and Sean Price. It just seemed like they didn't even have studio time together. As if Black Milk e-mailed instrumentals to these guys and they rapped over it, no connection between them. I had high standards on that because of Guilty released 'Oj Simpson' with madlib, and it's hard to top off Madlib.

So I guess BM is just plain hit or miss with me, but I still follow him.
Try, Long Story Short & Tronic Summer were my faves but I just prefer AOTY because of the replay value, and I loved the production on it; it felt live if that makes sense..Tronic at times to me felt too pop/techno. He's tried something different every album so far production/vibe wise so I am interested to see what he does for his next album..

I'm actually quite surprised he's hasnt done much of anything lately..Like what was the newest thing you've heard from him or another artist he's produced a track for?

Agreed that he's changed it up on each album, which is cool.

Losing Out and Try are running neck and neck as his best song to me.

That's crazy, 20 years.

Definitely a game changing album. It was something that nobody had ever heard anything quite like it, and then it was also an album that tons of rappers copied in the following years.

Not to mention he crossed over without making any attempts to whatsoever with the typical "radio single". He made the radio come to them, shit was that undeniable.

Rolling stone actually has it ranked at like 136 or so on their top 500 albums of all time. 3rd highest ranked rap album on there. It Takes A Nation of Millions To Hold Us Back and Ready To Die being 1 and 2.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

Another thing with the Chronic is the sequencing. That album just flows from one song to the next, perfectly. Dre wasn't playing around, I miss that funk he used to bring. Dre, Snoop, Kurupt, Daz, Rage, RBX, Nate, Warren....they had a great collection of talent. And I'm playing this album right now because of this post, lol.
