Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
Em is still an all time great though, despite the drop off in his music content.
Only thing that irks me is the people who'll argue he's the GOAT or a top 5 emcee. They're usually the same people who were in their teen years during his rise and also usually white. My brother being an example of this. Trying to claim Recovery was a great album is blasphemous. It just oozed corny pop rap which if you're into is fine, but it's not my thing and it certainly wasn't a great all around listen.
When it was first released I really dug Talkin' 2 Myself, You're Never Over, Going Through Changes, No Love, 25 To Life, and Space Bound. Now it's really just down to Space Bound. That song has always stuck for me especially since I can relate to it very well as of recent.
Relapse felt like Em trying to revive Slim Shady and attempting to go for another SSLP/MMLP style album. At first I didn't like it, but I actually have come around to that album a lot and like a good portion of it. I like it a hell of a lot better than Recovery. Beautiful is still one of my favorite Em songs.
I feel like Em is heavily overrated which is a shame because I feel like a lot of hardcore rap fans will shit on him for that and will overlook his talent because he is a really talented artist.
BTW, The Roots new album has been getting 5/5s everywhere it seems.
