Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
That's the thing, Dilla really had NO fame until his death..His death kinda created his bandwagon where as Pac & Biggie had bandwagon's when they were alive and on top of hip-hop..Despite Stakes is High, Got Till it's Gone, The Light & other hits, was he as big during that era of hits compared to after he died? I'd say no, and furthermore, me personally, I think majority didn't even know he did those tracks until after he died because like I said before, main thing that those who knew about him while alive knew him for is the heat he took for Love Movement & Electric Circus

Nah. Dilla doesn't have 1/50th the bandwagon fanbase of BIG or Pac. I mean, there's no bullshit "glamour" to Dilla's death. He died of Lupus or some shit. Pac and BIG got gunned down in some fucked up situation that assholes who were born AFTER it happened, still love to glamourize. Because of the story, and their fame and position when they died, they've got WAY more of a bandwagon than Dilla.
Only people bandwagoning Dilla are those REALLY into the music aspect, and those wanting to be.
As far as less justified....I'll argue that Dilla had way less of a fanbase that he deserved when he was alive, based on musical skills. He should've been up there with Pete and Primo(both of whom I put above Dilla for the record) and Dre and Quik and Marley and all them.....and he really wasn't put there, except by a certain smaller base of fans. To me, the props that Dilla gets from artists comes off WAY more sincere than the dickriding that Pac and BIG still get, because there's absolutely NOTHING to gain from most of these cats giving props to Dilla because most of them are/were bigger than Dilla in terms of fame and stature.
...... ass Charles Hamilton was the exception, that was a real corny ass move on his part.

I mean, he doesn't really have fame AFTER his death either. What fame he got? Just because some music nerds on message boards who really want to get into the shit, have noticed him doesn't mean he's got any type of fame.
And it's funny, I don't think he cared. He produced quite a few well known songs when he was alive, but he wasn't namedropping himself all over the track like some so a lot of people didn't even know who produced those songs.

LOL, it was so weird. An obvious ill-fated attempt to get cred from the "real hip hop heads". I'm LMAO just thinking about it now though. "Executive produced by....umm...J Dilla, yo! I got cred!" Between that incident, and getting punched in the face by a girl in the middle of his corny ass rhymes......dude was DONE. LOL.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
Fame he got? Countless number of beats on projects + posthumous projects being released at as rapid rate, magazine spreads and people after he died publicly talking about how much of an influence he had on them compared to while he was alive..

My favorite Charles Hamilton moment will always be when he claimed to be the fifth member of Slaughterhouse cuz of that one Royce line "I done played a tune of violence, more than my nigga Charles Hamilton played Sonic." Could you imagine CH in Slaughterhouse? Hearing Joell n Crooked spit some thugged-out shit, followed by Charles Hamilton talkin bout how great the color pink is.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
As weird as Charles Hamilton in Slaughterhouse seems, it may have been true...I wouldn't completely rule it out..Joe Budden isn't all there in the head either so ya never know...By the way, Slaughterhouse was a label concocted thing right like Boyz in the Hood?

I mean, people was giving him props as an influence when he was alive too....Pharrell did it on TV when he was like the biggest producer in the game, ?uestlove, Busta, Pete, etc. He's always gotten props from those who matter.
I honestly have no idea about magazine spreads because I don't even know if I've read a magazine since before Dilla died, that format been dead, ain't nobody reading those shits.
I mean, cats like Ghost or Raekwon or something releasing songs over Dilla beats.....are they really gaining from that? I mean they're getting a dope beat, but fame and name wise? They're bigger than Dilla. If anything, they're helping his fam. and bringing maybe a little bit more long deserved attention to him, I don't see why anyone would have a problem with that, other than that certain segment who wants to keep their little "secret" all to themselves.
