Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
Still don't get what's wrong with Shyne giving his opinion on an album...It's like everyone missed the part where he said he'd like Kendrick & said he was talented..I mean I've seen artist tweet how they weren't impressed by Kendrick and take less heat..Hip-Hop continues to do a disservice to itself when they crucify anyone with an opinion..It's like a fear tactic..You must like whatever is "in" right now or be crucified for it. Kendrick Lamar is the new "thing" among mainstream where if you don't like him or his music you will be crucified..The genre does it to itself sometimes ya know and it's stupid..smh

Don't pay homeboy any attention. I had banned him for flaming via rep before LB reported this. Now I'm extending the ban upon seeing this.
Can't believe people are this moronic.

I agree. And I strongly disagree with Shyne, I love the album.
I don't know if Shyne has touched on it again or really broken down why he doesn't care for the album. And I hope he does that. He can like what he likes, but if speaking out on it he should at least say why he doesn't like it. Maybe he did, and I missed it.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
IIRC Shyne did say why he didn't like it, too lazy to search the article though.

He did..to a degree
"I ain't starting no trouble. Listen, y'all live in the United States of America. We don't live in the United States of Aftermath, Jimmy Iovine doesn't pay me, I can say whatever I want," said Shyne. "I'm not talking reckless. I said the young boy got potential and I said he was talented, but the album is trash. That's tough love.
"What I said wasn't not nice, I didn't attack him as an individual, I didn't say anything disrespectful," he continued. "It's trash! I don't really listen to these rappers, but I heard him on a few joints and I was like, shorty's nice. ... So when he was coming out with an album, I was like, I'ma hear more of that."
Po went on to explain that he wasn't feeling the production on the project, and that he'd rather hear a spoken word album if that's the route he wanted to take. "Beats is trash, number one. And once your beats are trash, you're finished because you can't handle a good flow. I don't really want to hear what you gotta say. I'll go buy Dr. Cornel West's album if I want to hear someone talk."
He said that he felt a responsibility to be honest about his opinion because he didn't want Kendrick to drink his own Kool-Aid. "I feel bad for him because everybody's gassing him right now, everyone's on him. He on fire because of that Interscope machine, he's on fire because of that Dr. Dre machine. He's nice, but that's a lot of hype. All I'm saying is, to show y'all I'm not a hater, 50 [Cent] delivered. I never had nothing positive to say about him, but he delivered. He lived up to the hype."

I don't think the problem is Shyne disliking the album. I'm not a fan of it either. The problem is that Shyne constantly disses every relevant MC every time they try to do anything, to the point where it feels like he's just trying to build up a buzz for himself again. That, and the fact that he randomly blurts out that he thinks his first album was classic every time a new album drops.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
Everyone has different tastes. There are some people out there who will shit on Illmatic on 36 Chambers or Paid In Full or whatever. 99% of people can agree on something being great, but there will always be at least one detractor.
I just think the big problem here is that most would agree that not only is GKMC a good album, but that it's a bonafide stud and a future classic. I gave it a 10/10. I love the beats on every single track. Kendrick executed flawlessly on every track, start to finish. That's just me though.
Plus it's Shyne. I don't think a lot of people will be quick to agree that he has the credentials to place judgement on another rapper's album being garbage.

My Street's Disciple playlist, almost makes this a great album.....almost.
And yeah, Just a Moment is on replay. I saw Quan on a track with Asher Roth like a year ago, wtf?

I honestly prefer GKMC to Section 80. Section 80 was a good album but definitely overrated and more of a 7/10. Sometimes it felt like listening to a mixtape.

Streets Disciple coulda been a classic if it didn't have so much goddamn filler... Same with Blueprint 2. & honestly, I thought Quan outshined Nas on Just a Moment. Yeah, Nas shitted on him from a technical aspect, but there was somethin special bout what Quan was doing... Too bad he's a fuckin herb lol. Dude's from around my way, he's pretty much universally known as a fuckin clown here.
