But not everyone can relate to J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Nas, 2pac, Wu-Tang, etc. It's not about relating to the most people or rappers would talk about taxes, dickhead bosses, car payments, etc. 2pac's my favorite rapper of all time, but I can't relate to a lot of the shit he raps about. Same with L. Not sure how many people can relate to snuffing Jesus.
Above all, rap is entertainment. Some call it art. Some call it poetry. I'd agree at times, but in the grand scheme of things it's entertainment and like it or not Wayne, 2 Chainz, Nicki, Ross, and the like are great entertainers. That's why people latch on...also because they're retarded but hey.
Every artist has two sides. The artist diving in to the real life and then the artist making up stories of fiction. Every artist has done it.
Tupac has Keep Ya Head Up, Changes, Me Against The World etc. but then you have Toss it Up, Hail Mary, Temptations etc. Lil Wayne is a gimmick rapper with the same act over and over again. Like I previously said, Lil Wayne, Minaj etc. They are the Motley Crue and Poison of Hip Hop. In terms of it being more about the image and less about the music.
Honestly, I'd have to disagree. Just because they don't put out your kind of music or maybe music that isn't up to your standards doesn't mean they don't enjoy or take pride in what they do. I'd say both Wayne and Nicki had somewhat humble beginnings.
On that note, I'm going to go listen to The Carter, re-listen to C2 and Wayne's first 2 Dedication mixtapes for no apparent reason at all.
You can tell who's listened to Wayne's discography and who hasn't by their opinion of him
"Same act over and over again", Listen to Tha Carter 2, The Dedication 2 and Blow. Then, listen to I Am Not A Human Being, Tha Carter IV, The Dedication 4, Rebirth, anything after No Ceilings basically. Everyone who says Lil Wayne has never been good started listening to him in 2010 and never listened to anything prior to Tha Carter IV, it's just bandwagon hate

I listened to early Lil Wayne and I still didn't think that he was good.

I'm talking about the people who think he's always been as bad as he is now and he was never good, or should never have been considered good. If you listened to Tha Carter 1 and 2, The Dedication 1 and 2, Blow, No Ceilings and don't think he's good, ok. I just hate when people say something about a rapper without listening to at least most of their discography. It's like if I only listened to Jay-Z after The Black Album, I'd think the guy is awful outside of American Gangster.

Wayne's ability has gone down SIGNIFICANTLY over the years. C2 is overrated in my opinion, but it's still no doubt his best album to date (at least that I've listened to, I've never ventured into pre-The Carter Wayne) and one of his best works period. No Ceilings was his last great effort and C3 was his last good album. I don't think people give C3 as much credit as it deserves. Plenty of banging tracks on there.

Fuck Beans might be the most underrated rapper ever, top 5 easily (Pun/L/Styles/AZ are also in the discussion). His first album is great, 2nd is good, 3rd is amazing and 4th is also good. Shame that he's such a fuck up -_-

rightfully so .. Good Kid M.A.A.D City could easily be considered a classic album in the future, and no i'm not dickriding or overrating him, because it's one of those albums that you could bump every single track

Lil Wayne is the most overhated muthafucka in hip-hop. How can he be the sole reason for hip-hop's direction when he's not even the biggest rapper around right now?
