It isn't imo

Good as Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, 36 Chambers, The Coming, Black on Both Sides, It's Dark and Hell Is Hot, DoggyStyle (even though I think Snoop is the most overrated Hip Hop artist ever) and others? Not at all, but it's still one of the best debut rap albums ever, still has replay value, etc. Listened to it 2 days ago in full and I didn't skip a track and it's still a 10/10 to me

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread

Food & Liquor was a great album, as for it being classic, idk.

It's not close to one of the best debuts ever......because every album you named above was a debut of some sort.....and that's only a fraction fo the debuts that are probably better than F & L.

I'd give Food and Liquor like a 7.5/10. I bought it right when it dropped too. I wanted it to be great and wanted to love it......it's not, and I don't though. It was cool, had it's moments. Haven't felt the need to play it in years.

The original Food and Liquor that was leaked early(with Ghetto Story, Hustlaz Song, Theme Music to a Drive By, Spaz Out, Trials and Tribulations was better than Pressure, etc.) was better than the version that came out.....I'd give that an 8.5/10. I wish they just released that instead of reworking songs, adding new songs and cutting some. They got rid of some of the best songs. The F&L bootleg and mixtape Lupe had me open. Since then......not so much.

This is what passes as good mainstream hip hop? Ouch.

Nas, Pete Rock, DJ Premier and the Wu Tang Clan frown upon your shenanigans.

?

Lupe has worked with Raekwon, he's called Nas the GOAT. If you thought I said F&L is better than any of those albums, no. Illmatic is the #1 hip hop album and 36 chambers is top 10, probably top 5

and the Pete Rock beef is over

lol what? I was just saying I wouldn't place F&L anywehre near those albums. It'd almost be equal to the distance between between a wasted man's bed and a bathroom at 4 am.

I would for debut albums, these are the only debut albums I think are better than F&L

Illmatic
Reasonable Doubt
36 Chambers
The Chronic
Black on Both Sides
It's Dark and Hell is Hot
Capital Punishment
The Documentary
Organix
Mos Def and Talib Kweli Are Black Star
Trill
Paid in Full
Straight Outta Compton
Iron Man
Ready to Die (think this aged bad though)
College Dropout
The Coming
Only Built 4 Cuban Linx

Probably missed 1 or 2. Then you have albums like Tical, Doggystyle, Harlem World, and No Way out which I didn't like but I'm in the minority on that. I'm not saying F&L should (or is) considered a universal classic, but it's a personal classic to me.
