So people shouldn't judge his rapping based on him under the MMG label.

The Wale that makes songs like Slight Work is different from the one who made Shades, The Kramer, etc.

Which label he's signed under makes no difference to me. Skill is skill.

Anyone can see he dumbs himself down whenever he's a track with the rest of those dweebs though. Even under MMG, Wale's still dope. He's not at his full potential though and why would he be? He can spit a half ass verse that's better then the rest of em.

Then you got Ross whos idea of a bar is repeating the same lines twice in every song.

So I've played through Liquid Swords multiple times and it's obviously fucking phenomenal. RZA's production is at it's pinnacle and GZA just slays it over and over. Not to mention the Wu guest appearances. Inspectah Deck, imo, had the best feature on "Cold World" and you could even say he outshined GZA on that track.

Still, even after all plays I've given the album I'm still finding it somewhat difficult to keep up. I feel like a lot of what GZA spits goes over my head. OB4CL is next. I've seen many put Liquid Swords at the top of all Wu solo projects, but I see the same with OB4CL. Which do you guys prefer? Liquid Swords or OB4CL?

And holy shit, Kendrick's expected to sell 200k his first week? GOD DAMN.

I wanted a higher number for Kendrick. It bugs me that Ross did 218k.

Yeah, Deck got Genius on Cold World, altho Ghost's verse on 4th Chamber is my favorite on the album. I don't think much of Deck as a solo artist, but he always murders the fuck outta group tracks. As for LS vs Cuban Linx, imma go with LS. OB4CL is a classic, but i find LS more grippin.

Yeah, Deck was the best rapper in the WU back then, to me. He had some of the most memorable verses on their debut, and then he OWNED their second album. And all his guest appearances in between. Deck from 93-97(the Wu's prime) was their best rapper IMO.

One of the great hip hop tragedies was the flood that destroyed a lot of RZA's records, including the beats he had lined up for Deck's solo debut which was supposed to come out in like 95-96. It ruined his album, and had to scrap it and by the time his first solo dropped in like '98, it wasn't nearly as good as everyone hoped. Big shame.

As for Kendrick's album sales......Combat Analyst, I told you he had a big buzz and growing fanbase and didn't need Gaga, and would do quite well if the music is good! I fully expected all that, but even I am surprised it's 200K +. Fantastic numbers. Word of mouth can still be a huge way to generate buzz, which is what has happened with twitter, blogs, reviews, message boards, etc.......EVERYONE(except Shyne....clown) is singing this album's praises, and generating more and more buzz.

LS > OB4CL for me. Neither are among my top, top favorites (only 36 Chambers is a real favorite for me from Wu's entire discography) but they are definitely classics. I prefer LS because it's shorter and more consistent. OB4CL gets a bit redundant halfway through and there are some songs I could've done without such as "Wisdom Body".

I've been listening to Wale since he was just a local hype artist here in D.C... right before his breakthrough joint with Wayne came out (Nike Boots).. The Wale you hear now is just a shell of his former self. He's fell of big time. His flow, sound, lyrics.. everything, is just different. He's not terrible now imo, but he's become the very definition of the word average. Idk what it is, it just sounds like he's phoning it in most of the time.

More about Nothing and Back to the Feature are two fucking amazing mixtapes. I encourage you all to listen to em. Wale in 2008/2009 was a fucking dope artist.
