Cruel Summer is a fucking win just for Raekwon's verse on The Morning. Raekwon is a boss. Been putting that track on repeat over the past few days.
Too bad Mos Def couldn't get on it. Him and Talib need to bring back Black Star.
Lupe has a new album out next week? What's the hype on that?
edit: I see on the previous page the hype is good. excellent.
also, that tick, tock track off of RZA's album...
...
From his FB page:
Quote:
6 yrs ago there was a seismic shift, a rise, a lift, he finally arrived in rap form and used that form as his platform 2 provide his gift, summarized as sick, quick witted and hip, also promoted wisdom in a broken system gave the fans a fix and b*tch n*ggas the fits, a culmination of hard work, long nights through cold water and large surf, wading the water this MC became a Man, McMan, Star Search
...
Now in between these here albums we've had our ups & downs, partly my fault cuz the way I talk a mix of giving a fuck & he don't fuck around, but I always kept it honest as my father made me promise, before he left this world to go and dwell amongst the comets.
So put aside the comments, the constant blog blah blah & me arguing with comics, cuz #Sept25th I bring again the gift prepare 2 b astonished.
...and waste no time when trying to decipher every verse, cuz if part 1 is just the gift part 2 will be the curse, #FL2
Mercy, New God Flow, and Cold are the best songs.....and those have been out for awhile. So anytime you get an album with only 12 tracks, and you've already heard the 3 best songs, it seems underwhelming and disappointing. So glad he replaced that stupid Army chant on New God Flow with a Ghostface verse.
The Morning and Clique are cool.
To The World.....I gotta be in the mood. It "sounds" good, but sometimes it's hard for me to get past the ridiculous lyrics in the hook. They sound like some shit an angsty teenager would come up with, and we got a 45 year R. Kelly singing that dumb shit.
Higher is cool. Sin City is boring as hell. The One is ok. Feels like he was going for this to be that "epic" song but it doesn't fully hit for some reason. Creepers is boring as hell. Have no idea why Cudi would get a solo song on here, keep him on the hooks only, please. Bliss, I like now after some listens.
I Don't Like is terrible. 35 year old Kanye trying to fit in with ignorant 16 year olds, that's that shit I don't like. The fuck Kanye rapping like these retards for, on this track? LOL.
A few really good songs, a few decent songs, a few wack songs, only 12 tracks, already heard the best of it, coming out in Sept. rather than summer, no Q-Tip or Mos........the whole thing is a disappointment based on what most were probably hoping for. But based on what it is.....it's like a really expensive mixtape. 6.5/10. It's aight.
Lupe's album, I found surprisingly good on first listen. I say surprisingly, because I haven't really liked his albums that I've heard and think he's had a pretty disappointing career overall.....I was hyped for him back before his first album came out. I wasn't excited for this album......but I enjoyed it on first listen.
I gotta play it in the car, like always. And I gotta really "listen". I've heard it, but haven't really "listened" closely yet.
Lupe never raps over the type of production that I love and think he would sound best over.....but I didn't think the production sucked upon first listen either. And he's spitting. A few bad hooks. Hood Now was my favorite upon first listen, that one reminds me of the Lupe that had me excited back in like 2005-06.
only the ladder is real. the climb is all there is.

Re: Hip Hop Discussion Thread
i'll give Lupe's new album a listen, but i always found the guy to be completely overrated.
Ambition by Bumpy Knuckles & Statik Selektah
This Generation by Murs & Fashawn
more interested in those two. huge Fashawn fan and anything produced by Statik is dope. was DMX's album any good? i doubt it, but worth asking i guess.

Haven't heard DMX new album, but came across this video of him using "google" for the first time. It's funny, but I feel kinda bad for him too.
