Re: Official Battle Rap Thread (KOTD, URL, DF, GT etc)
Stay vs Hoffa will be ill.
I need to catch up on battles tbh. Last battle I watched was Sensa vs Leese which was pretty good. Leese getting it 5-0 is a joke though, I had it Sensa 2-1.
These O Shea bars have me rolling

I had Leese 2-1. That grab bag round was amazing.
Ars/DNA might be wack as fuck.

Yeah Leese definitely got the grab bag round, that shit was crazy. Had Sensa edging the other two rounds though. Ars/DNA...eh I don't know what to think about it, I could see DNA get buried if Ars comes with it. Though they are friends, so I dunno how much fire Ars will bring. DNA wasn't that good against Sensa tbh (though he did win).

Re: Official Battle Rap Thread (KOTD, URL, DF, GT etc)
I just started getting into battle rap after I saw the Loaded Lux vs. Calicoe battle. Been looking at a lot of SmackURL videos, what's some of other big battle rap "leagues" or whatever they're called.

Thanks.
To be honest, I never knew the battle rap scene was this big. It isn't really that popular in Houston so I assumed it was a thing of past but I'm happy to see that it's still big in other places around the country.

Re: Official Battle Rap Thread (KOTD, URL, DF, GT etc)
If you're a fan of the Smack style, check out UW Battle League, run by Arsonal. I'd just start with names you recognise and go from there.
If you haven't watched it yet, Aye Verb vs Hitman Holla is one of the best battles ever, and possibly the best through URL.
Leagues with a less street/more comedy style approach, like King Of The Dot, are worth trying. Names like Bender, Loe Pesci (chokes like fuck but still rules), Hollohan, Pat Stay, Osa, Dizaster, Daylyt are good paces to start.
Grind Time, especially the West Coast division, was the shit a few years back, 09/10 especially. Probably the best the current era has been for pure entertainment, IMO. Hollow Da Don, Conceited, Thesaurus, Illmaculate, Dumbfoundead, Soul Khan, Okwerdz all had many, many classic battles back in those days.
Don't Flop is a UK league that's had some shit hot battles, especially recently. Some guys from the league, particularly Eurgh, Cruger and Sensa, have some quality battles. I'd start with Oshea vs Tony D, and Arsonal vs Shotty Horror with DF though.
Going back a bit, there's a few old leagues it's worth watching-
- Scribble Jam, a freestyle tournament on a beat, lot of big names came up through there
- Jump Off/World Rap Championships, 'freestyle' acapella 2 vs 2 battles, it's when written material was first really accepted. Marvwon & Quest McCody vs Thesaurus & Illmaculate, or Marv & QM vs Mad Illz & Parable are classics
- Fight Klub - notable for the worst host ever. Iron Solomon vs Jin is an undisputed landmark battle
EDIT: completely forgot iBattle Worldwide. Came to my attention this year with Thesaurus vs Ness Lee being top 3 battle of the year (probably). Put out some fantastic match ups from lesser known guys. If you enjoy KOTD/GT battles, it's for you
If you want specific recommendations or whatever just ask.
As far as Arsonal vs DNA - it could possibly be, perfomance-wise, one of the best battles of the year. Arsonal is one of the most entertaining, possibly ever, to do this shit and DNA has undoubted charisma. As far as bars go, though, it could be almost disgustingly bad. As far as it goes, it's probably gonna be more Pesc vs Bender than Saurus vs Illmac.

This guy pretty much has it. OZone is also a UK league, not very popular though.

OZone's Swedish man. They do bring over a lot of UK dudes though. There's some good leagues in Europe, like Basementality. I didn't mention the biggest league on views, Fliptop, as I'm assuming no-one speaks Filipino.
Oshea may be the funniest guy around, he's just punch after punch.
EDIT: What the fuuuuuuck @ Saurus vs Matter
Thesaurus' freestyles in the 2nd were about as good as you'd expect in that situation, and even though his third was fire, you just can't count that. He smashed the first, but come on.
2-1, to Matter. He took round 2 easily, probably even without the choke he had it, and his third was basically unopposed. His first was bad. As it went on, though, he got more comfortable and he definitely deserved the decision.
Saurus - nicest guy in rap? So weird to see him choke. The only other one I can remember in written leagues is when Philly killed him but that was a completely different situation. Taking into account his actual writing and his Ness Lee performance, though, it seems like he's got some determination about him again.
