Frank Ocean

I listened to Frank Oceans new album "Channel Orange" It's spectacular for these standards today in the Music industry.

A stand out track if you really want to get to know more of Frank Ocean is the track called, 'Bad Religion'

What do you think of Frank Ocean as a musician/artist?

I listened to his mixtape stuff for about a year once I heard him on the Watch The Throne album and found out he wrote a song for Beyonce. When I heard Pyramids, Thinking Bout You and Sweet Life I rapidly started becoming a fan. Downloaded Nostalgia, ULTRA and bought channel, ORANGE. Love both albums and they have been on constant replay for about a month now. Frank is a good song writer and a stellar vocalist. When you have a 10 minute record like Pyramids that captivates me like he does singing about how we value people and things (in this case pyramids/black royalty & black women) you've got remarkable talent. I really appreciate that his music and lyrical content is not contained in one area. Channel, ORANGE address issues with love, sex, commitment, religion, social issues like drugs and poverty, character study of the rich/poor, and more. Frank Ocean is an artist and I am loving his work right now.

I wholeheartedly agree with you man. 100 percent.

Frank Ocean is head and shoulders a lot of the artists in the RNB and Hip Hop game. Lil Wayne is terrible so is Chris Brown, and the rest of that crew. The last "The Game" sounded good was like back in 2005.

Frank Ocean has breathed new life in to music, finally some lyrics that mean something!

If you loved Channel Orange, listen to Nostalgia Ultra and the Lonny Breaux Collection.

Dude is an incredible artist, Sweet Life, Lost, Pyramids and Pink Matter are my favorite tracks from Channel Orange... I'm still waiting for him to release the full version of Acura Integurl.

Love the the entire channel, ORANGE album but my Top 5 favorite songs would probably be Pyramids, Bad Religion, Pink Matter, Pilot Jones, and Crack Rock. Again, the album is very concise and the songs flow very well back-to-back.

Here's a really good live performance of Bad Religion:

This is my joint though:

Sensual and thought provoking. PLEASURE!

"Frankly that Ocean so mothafuckin good"

I've not listened to him, I know he's very popular and everybody from critics to fans to respected musicians have said how great he is, but I've just not sat down and listened yet. I will today I think!

I do like Odd Future though.

Frank Ocean is the shit. Album is very good, his mixtapes are good. He has a good voice and his songs actually have meaning to them unlike most mainstream rappers/R&B artists who rap/sing about 3 things: Pussy, Money, Weed.

And Clique (Y) at Pink Matter. By far my favorite song on the album along with Pyramids and Thinkin' Bout You.

Frank's falsetto in Thinkin' Bout You is great.

Also, what you said about many mainstream rappers/singers is true. Funny part about it is Frank can talk about those three subjects you listed and various other topics. Super Rich Kids, Sweet Life, Pilot Jones and Pink Matter very well written & performed songs. The entire channel, ORANGE album really.

Hard to disagree with anything being said in this thread so far. Seems Channel Orange is a glimpse at what Ocean is capable of given the budget, production and backing of the industry. I can't see it being unseated as my AOTY as I've already played it front-to-back countless times and it still feels good.

My top five tracks, Crack Rock, Pilot Jones, Super Rich Kids, Pyramids and Monks. However, every single track is absolutely fantastic.

Sierra Leone is that joint too! A song that is very mellow and atmospheric with a great mix of music, voice, and various sound effects coming together. Nice record.
