Re: R&B Music Discussion Thread

Been listening to Jhene Aiko's Sailing Souls mixtape and I've gotta say it's pretty good, I recommend it to you all.. She's like a female version of The Weeknd except she's not as vulgar and not as popular but a better vocalist and songwriter. If you're a fan of the members of the rap group Black Hippy then you're probably familiar with her since she's close to them and is featured on most of their solo projects.

My favorite tracks:

Earth, Wind & Fire are dropping a new album in September.

I am just in awe at this amazing revelation.

Pretty good. Surprising I think Chris Brown would of did good on a remix of this song. Or maybe The Dream.

Really? I'm happy for them. It's a shame they won't get any marketing behind them and won't do any record sales though.

It'll probably perform better than their last album (which I didn't even realize that they released an album in the 2000s prior to the announcement), but I too wish that they would receive more media exposure.

In other R&B news, a new Janelle Monae track leaked online yesterday. It's a bit of a departure from her previous work, but I do like the upbeat demeanor of the song.

Re: R&B Music Discussion Thread

BET Awards are tomorrow, anyone watching?

R. Kelly, Justin Timberlake, Ciara, Charlie Wilson, Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, india.arie and Janelle Monae are among the performers.

I tune in every year with the hopes for some good performances. So hoping for the same this year. But knowing BET, there will be some fuckery.

Re: R&B Music Discussion Thread

I haven't watched the BET awards since high school. Like, 2005. I might watch the BET awards because of Justin Timberlake.

Re: R&B Music Discussion Thread

I watch it every year.

Some years it's entertaining and some years it's so hilariously bad that it's entertaining. I only watch with the hope that there's some good performances, mostly the tributes for the Lifetime Achievement Award which usually deliver every year tbh.

I defo co-sign on Jhene Aiko. Discovered the mixtape on Youtube a few months back and her voice is just amazing. Really relaxing. Shame she hasn't received much more mainstream attention.

Erykah Badu and Kendrick Lamar killed that performance on the BET Awards. Best performance so far.
