re: R&B Thread

^That's my first time hearing that surprisingly. Smooth song. Just looked it up and I'm not surprised it's a hit since it was produced by Teddy Riley.

Jamming out tonight. Starting with very relaxing music from Sade's band Sweetback before branching out.

Jamming out to more hip hop/R&B callabos tonight.

Total is normally forgotten because of TLC, SWV, Xscape.

re: R&B Thread

Prince/The Time/Sheila E "Minneapolis Sound" is my shit too

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis from The Time produced quite a few records with Janet like this

Too bad so many of Prince's songs and songs he produced/wrote for other artists have been taken off of YouTube due to copyright. I would have posted a bunch more by now. But I really did The Time's "Jungle Love" & "The Bird," and most of Prince's stuff throughout the 80s.

Found this video someone on YouTube created an instrumental to maybe my favorite Prince song ever:

A shame Total fell off the map after the KKP album. Another quality female r&b group that goes unnoticed is Brownstone

@Clique - Jimmy Jam/Terry Lewis are so underrated when talking about great producers. Don't know why she went away from them starting with the the 20 YO album. I don't think it's any coincidence her last 2 albums haven't been anywhere near as good

re: R&B Thread

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis are two of the best producers in the of the last 25 years I'd say especially for the work they have done with Janet's career. Together they also collaborated on #1 hits like "All For You," "Doesn't Really Matter," "When I Think Of You" and "Again."

Come on they produced "Rhythm Nation" and "Scream!" But they've worked with so many artists and created good-great songs from Mariah Carey to Mary J. Blige to Usher to Boyz II Men and the list goes on. Not including their own group work with Morris Day & The Time.

Did they have some falling out? I understand some artists want to branch out to different producers for a different feel on their albums, but in her case she should of never left them.

Was my jam back in the day. RIP Heavy.

I just looked up an interview Jimmy Jam did a while back and said there is/wasn't any beef between them and Janet. She just "wanted to go a different way" with here music at the time. I personally think she made the split from them so JD could produce her album, but that's just me. Another article I read is that they want to work together again so I believe the part about them still being cool with each other.

Yeah you're right. Forgot she and JD were together at that time but he had started to fall off as a producer focusing on garbage like Dem Franchise Boys

Ginuwine's first album was a problem (second one too for that matter)

fresh off that One In A Million classic.

YES! Ginuwine was that dude in the day. Straight smooth combined with Tim's production made him a star. Wasn't nobody messing with Tim's camp in the late 90's. Ginuwine, Missy, Aaliyah?
