re: R&B Thread

I thought this thread was about Chuck Berry and Fats Domino, I was disappointed.

re: R&B Thread

Chuck Berry is more a rock n' roll legend (one of the pioneers of genre actually) but Fats is earlier rhythm & blues to the bone and I wouldn't mind talking about them. We can talk about all black artists from the 50s/60s if you want. I grew up on all that music because of my dad and grandmother. Have you seen the Hail, Hail Rock n' Roll concert documentary? It's a very entertaining film half on Chuck's life story and career and half on his 60th Birthday concert celebration with guest artists.

re: R&B Thread

All that 90's R&B group talk from earlier......gotta mention 2 of the best frontmen of that era who both unfortunately died: Kenny Greene of Intro, and Tony Thompson of Hi-Five.

Both those groups had some great songs, Intro's first album is an underrated classic.

re: R&B Thread

Since a poster brought up the classics earlier I want to post a few (just a few) of the music I grew up on with my dad and grandma:

RHYTHM & BLUES and SOUL

God, I love this album:

THE BLUES

FUNK

Al Green's "Something" is something. Green's falsetto and his wails are chilling. Love all of those Temps hits. I listened to that version of Rolling Stone and there's an even longer one available if you want a bit more from that all-time classic record.

Soo....we going to act like Bobby Brown wasn't the man 25 years ago. He doesn't get enough credit for the performer he was. It's a shame he will forever be linked to Whitney's problems.

^Incredible tribute to Sammy.

Don't Be Cruel >>> Thriller.

That might be blasphemy to some, but it's the truth to me and I don't give a damn.

Bobby Brown was that dude! And the "Bobby" album was great too. It's a shame what drugs did to him. Just hoping he can be clean and live a good life for awhile.

re: R&B Thread

I purchsed Bobby Brown's latest release on Amazon whenever it was out, and when I opened it(from new) there was no disc in the case. Proper bummer. Got a refund.

That's my contribution to this thread.
