I know this the classic R&B thread and I don't really listen to any current R&B singers in general other than The Weeknd & Frank Ocean. I kind of like Trey Songz but he's inconsistent as hell, his Anticipation mixtapes are really dope to me though.
But was just wondering if anyone here listened to The Weeknd? He's my favorite R&B singer and one of my top 5 favorite artists in general that's out currently. If you haven't heard of him before, I think you should check him out.
What y'all know about Da Bassment? I've been on a heavy Bassment kick recently, listening to a bunch of the songs that came out of that camp in the mid 90's.......
-the entire Jodeci - Show, After Party, Hotel album
- Devante - Gin and Juice, and the remix.
- Tony Thompson - Slave
- Mr. Dalvin and Static - True OG
- Usher - Can You Get Wit It
- Jodeci - What About Us remix
- Al Green - Could This Be The Love (produced by Devante)
All kinds of joints. Devante, Timbaland, Playa, Missy, Ginuwine.....so much talent in that camp.
If you're a Bassment fan like me and haven't seen this yet......you definitely need to read through this blog. So much information, links to songs, videos, interviews, etc. a zip folder with all of the songs I mentioned above plus a lot of other songs, a demo tape with a bunch of song clips from unreleased songs from that camp, etc.

I heard about that crew on Missy Elliot's VH1 biography a while back. I agree that was a special camp that had a ton of talented artists collaborating and producing hits.
EDIT - Nice track right here. The piano intro is excellent.
Regina Belle is one of the strongest vocalist I've ever heard. I really can't pick who is better between her and Anita Baker. I would have to listen to at least five songs from each of them before making a decision.
Regina and Anita for sure are up there with the best power vocalist in R&B/Soul music. My girls Mariah and Whitney can belt when the moment calls for it too. Can't forget essential legends or as some will call them "the scream queens" - Aretha, Tina, Patti, and Chaka.
btw, later this month I'm going to my first Prince concert at the United Center! I got tickets the day they went on sale before they were all sold out. I'm treating my mom to the show. She's been a fan since he came out in '79 and I grew up with his records. I can't wait! I was just thinking the other day Michael, Prince, and Madonna were all born in the same year, same age and were pop icons in the 80s. It's sad Prince and Madonna are still here touring and doing shows in Chicago and other places and Michael should be there with them. Another terrible loss for music and MJ fans.
A few of the songs I've been listening to. Quiet storm feel:
(It's a shame that when they performed that song live, Al B lip-synched.)
Sade has the best live band I've ever heard. It's the same core group guys that's been recording music with her for the last 25 years. With a few additions along the way. I got her Lovers Live concert from 2000 on DVD, and there's a full concert of her from this year on youtube that is just as good, or better than the one in 2000.
