Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Who here has listened to Saigon- The Greatest Story Never Told? Made back in 2011, but it was heavily slept on. One of the best albums (if not the best) hip hop album to come out that year. Just Blaze really outdid himself with the production, I suggest everyone listens to it if they haven't.

And good list in the OP, got done listening to ATLiens again a few hours ago. Never get's old.

Hmm, everyone I've heard from has mixed opinions on OSI. I find their contrast interesting. Not to mention Moore is a damn good composer. Been a big fan of his since hearing Space Dye Vest.

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Suggestion, but I think Makaveli- 7 Day Theory should be added to the essentials list. Most people remember All Eyez On Me as 2Pac's classic, but it was mostly geared to the mainstream to me (Kind of like Jay's Vol 2) while Makaveli you could see where Pac was going as an artist before he got killed. Every song on there is still playable to me.

Don't get me wrong, All Eyez On Me is still a classic but 7 Day Theory is a better album imo.

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

1. Tacoma Narrows Bridge Disaster - Exegesis // Genre : Post-Metal // Year : 2012

Super sick album in the vein of Russian Circles but with more post-rock qualities. A bit Oceansize-y too. In my top 10 of the year. Acquire.

2. 40 Watt Sun - The Inside Room // Genre : Doom Metal // Year : 2012

Yeah this rapes. If you like Warning, you'll obvious like this. Requires your full attention as you'll hate it if you just try and have it on in the background. The Oceanic of Doom.

3. Gaza - No Absolutes in Human Suffering // Genre : Grind // Year : 2012

Incredibly powerful grindcore act. Abrasive but awesome.

4. Van Morrison - Moondance // Genre : Folk // Year : 1970

IMO Morrison is the GOAT singer songwriter, and whilst this doesn't top Astral Weeks for me, it's still essential.

5. The Pax Cecilia - Blessed are the Bonds // Genre : Post-Hardcore // Year : 2007

I saw these described as Maudlin of the Well meets Circle Takes the Square. Probably a decent shout, actually. Very experimental post-hardcore. You'll dig it.

6. While She Sleeps - This Is the Six // Genre : Hardcore // Year : 2012

This cunt took me by surprise. It's actually really awesome and unlike a lot of hardcore bands than throw cleans in there, it doesn't suck. Punchy, powerful, catchy and at times emotive.

7. Underworld - Dubnobasswithmyheadman // Genre : Electronic // Year : 1993

Some rad older generation electronic dub here. Awesome if you have the speakers to handle it/ Grimy beats and bass. GET IT. Classic.

8. Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus // Genre : Doom Metal // Year : 1986

This shit invented a genre pretty much. A cornerstone of any metal fans catalogue. Highly influential

I'm also inducting the following metal classics because Crusade reminded me of their greatness.

Burzum - Hvis Lyset Tar Oss
Dissection - Storm of the Light's Bane
Incantation - Onward to Golgatha
Gorguts - Obscura
Cryptopsy - None so Vile
Esoteric - Paragon of Dissonance
My Dying Bride - Turn Loose the Swans

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

By the way there is literally no way you can have a post metal essentials list without Neurosis. The pioneers of the genre, the list is pretty much invalid without it.

I'd suggest Neurosis - Through Silver in Blood. As it is universally considered their best album.

Nice updated list on the metal section!

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Neurosis bore me, pioneers or not. Through Silver in Blood is probs the most overrated metal album I own.

In general you should probs stop saying the list is worthless just because it doesn't contain everything you happen you like either. It makes you come off as a bit of a sanctamonious twat and thats not what we want up in this here bitch.

Will be bumping up some other genres next time. I feel like I'll be on a hardcore/screamo binge shortly.
