Anyone familiar with Lorde's The Love Club? This five-track EP is solid throughout apart from "Royals" (the production is a bit too simplistic for my tastes and I wasn't too fond of her vocals in that track). "Bravado" and "Million Dollar Bills" are my personal album highlights. Mind you, this girl is only 16 and yet she has displayed an unusual level of craftsmanship when compared to some of the artists her age. That in itself was the biggest surprise for me.
Julia Holter is easily the best discovery I've made all year. Utterly utterly brilliant experimental artist. Makes some of the most unique music I've ever heard. Utterly beautiful album. Challenges Laura Stevenson's Wheel for Album of the year for me. If you haven't heard this album, you need to check it out.
"I'm a tired arachnid, spinning loose in my threads, building lifetimes of gossamer beds. And the filigree waterdrops around my head, they absorb every word that I said."
Here's to mud in your eye, here's to you and the rest of your life.
