Doubtful. Good albums, though.

Purpose twofold.

1) Bump

2) Painkiller?

Would rank Sin After Sin, Hell Bent For Leather/Killing Machine, Sad Wings of Destiny, Screaming for Vengence, Defenders of the Faith and Rocka Rolla all as much greater works than Painkiller, though the title track is epic.

Motherfucker get on adding some BOSS already. 4srs, though, which Springsteen albums would you toss on there?

I've probably just missed it (only skimmed the thread so far), either on the original list or in subsequent recommendations, but The Great Adventures of Slick Rick is one of the few hip-hop albums I haven't seen mentioned that absolutely has to go on the essential list at some point (again, I might've just missed it).

Trying to think of some others that I'd throw into the hip-hop category (The Great Adventures... goes in the 'SOME BASIC ESSENTIALS' crowd, IMO). Most of them have already been mentioned, though, so I don't want to start "scraping the barrel" just for the sake of it.

Resurrection (Common) is a good shout. I'd say I Used to Love H.E.R. is one of the top 5 hip-hop songs of all time, Chapter 13 (Rich Man Vs. Poor Man) is fucking awesome, No I.D. is a fucking boss on the production, etc. Black on Both Sides (Mos Def), Things Fall Apart and Illadelph Halflife (Roots), Black Star (Mos Def/Talib Kweli), The Sun Rises in the East (Jeru), Reasonable Doubt (Jigga), Death Certificate (Cube)...I'd say those definitely belong, but down the line after you throw up things like Paid in Full, Organized Konfusion (album, obv), It Takes a Nation..., Raising Hell, etc.

I need to listen to this. I've only ever heard Deja Entendu from them, but I thought it was a very good album.

Brand New is great. I like all their albums. They are all so different, but still so great. My personal favorite is probably Devil and God, but Daisy really grew on me. They explored this 90s alternative/grunge side I didn't even know they had.

Sorry, been in fuckin' LONDON for a few days.

@Andy3000. I'd consider The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle, Born to Run, Darkness of the Edge of Town, The River, Nebraska, Born in the USA & The Promise to be essential Springsteen, although as I already said, I left him off because this forum are already all fans of his and I was just skimming shit off the top of my head. I'm sure I'll induct these albums as a collective at some stage though. Don't be concerned.

As for the Hip-Hop - The Great Adventures of Slick Rick is a good shout. Resurrection is godly, was on my future list. I'm personally not a fan of Black of Both Sides, interestingly. Stress: The Extinction Agenda >>> Organised Konfusion, though. Heh.

@Rockhead. Good albums to like. Let me know if you find any LP's on my list that you like.

Devil & God is far and away Brand New's album and it should be an essential part of everyone's collection.

I'm inducting 5 more albums to the list tomorrow, so look out for that!

Swap in Tunnel of Love for The Promise and I'd probably agree with that. I actually think Tunnel of Love is arguably his best album and there's some days I'd put it #1 outright. The version of Racing in the Street on The Promise is fucking AMAZING, though.

Stress: The Extinction Agenda is great. Organized Konfusion is way up there for me, though. Haven't listened to either of those in years, actually. Also noticed you already have Black Star on the list so

I've always found Buckley to be overrated. I probably like 3, maybe 4 of his tracks. Good voice, though.

I'll re-listen to Tunnel of Love. It doesn't really jump out of me as much as it does of the others, although it's obviously still really good.
