Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Very good write-up.

Think it's just as easy now to get music now than the Mediafire days given Torrent sites and scripts that lets you rip the content off of streaming services. It's nice to use sites like Spotify for the ease of use, the way things are perfectly laid out, the recommendation system ect.. It's nice that it doesn't take any space on your harddrive which is minor but makes the service much more attractive. I used to use Pandora and Last.FM for their radio format, but I have a hard time accessing those now due to their licencing issues abroad. It's becoming progressively harder as Canadians despite there being a huge demand for it. I love the concept of creating playlists and sharing them with a community like you could do on Grooveshark, though the industry needs to be more open to this sort of media sharing before it becomes an acceptible things. Alot of these websites are undergoing lawsuits that's been pending for months/years. If the industry had it's way, they'd still be selling their CD's at $25 a pop and selling the digital equivilent accordingly. If there's one great thing about piracy, it's that it forced the prices to trim down to something reasonable.

yeah this is it too, I remember when cds started hitting 25euro, stupid prices for disposible pieces of plastic and massive pain for someone like me who could never possibly afford to pay for all the music I want to hear, if I really love something Ive downloaded I keep an eye out for a physical copy and even then my limit is about 20 for a vinyl, and it better be one impressive package and an album I know I'll like, the try before you buy thing I guess, the physical copy is like a luxury item now.

Also brings up a point about what music is actually worth, enough to recoup recording costs? to give the artist a living? to give the record label a living too? funny to think of spending 15 quid on your favourite cds as a kid and how much use and enjoyment you got out of them for the money.

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Interesting article, but I can't see this being very effective. In theory it could work for sure, but will the record companies follow through? Plus it's pretty easy to hide your IP address as mentioned. Plus, the second video seemed to imply that the companies that own the music, films etc would have to download the file, check it through completely and then inform the internet provider. That seems like way too much hassle for them.

Thanks for posting the article though.

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Yeah it's extremely easy to set up a proxy for this sort of thing, plus I wouldn't be surprised if scripts were created as a workaround. In the internet age, it's a battle that can't be won. Every structure put in place, there's a way to hack through it. If that's not bad enough, the Dinosaurs up in Congress don't have the slightest clue what a DNS is, and they were attempting to pass bills that enables Govt regulation lol

Watch them fall flat on their face with this one. All this is doing is poking the hornet's nest.

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Great write-up. I can't say I knew anything about this album before you linked me your review, but that Boris mention does worry me. I saw them live in 2008, and they would've put me to sleep if it wasn't for the uneven and distorted sound coming out of the speakers. Something must've been defective with their audio equipement. Regardless, that was enough for me to conclude that Boris really wasn't my thing.

I'll give TRA a listen though.

EDIT: Just got done reading all the interviews. Solid

Re: i$e's Magical Music Megapost

Yeah, it's a LOT more varied than Boris, but there is some influences in the drumming.
