For someone not accustomed to heavier stuff, I'd almost always say something like Ghost Reveries or even their acoustic album, Damnation.

However, I'm gonna go ahead and tell you to listen to Blackwater Park and Still Life. Then once you've confirmed greatness, roll onto My Arms, Your Hearse (my personal favourite) and then whatever else you feel (although I'm really not a fan of their new LP at all).

On that note, 100 replies! Successful thread and I'm off to bed. Let me know your Opeth thoughts for sure.

Will do. It's been a while since I've attempted to get into them, and my punk background has faded with age and made me less opposed to any sort of vaguely epic-sounding metal, so I think now could be the time I hear the hype. I have heard nothing by good things.

Uhm he plays a big part in In A Silent Way, Bitches Brew (although I'm quite sure you've heard these), Live Evil. All with Miles Davis. Then Weather Report of course. Can't go wrong with their debut, Black Market & HEAVY WEATHER. From his solo stuff I'd recommend to start with Dialects and his live stuff with the Syndicate ain't too shabby.

Yes~! Classical music deserves some attention.

Also what happened to the idea that you share your thoughts on the new inductees on why they were inducted?

Ha, I did the inductees at like 4am so I was tired. For the last round of 6, my reasons were that THEY ARE ALL AWESOME, but in future I'll do a few sentences for each.

I've heard more than I thought then, just the name escaped me. I'll check out Dialects.

i$e, you like As The Roots Undo enough for CTTS to make the list? Listening to it now and forgot how much I enjoy it, every time. Good shout on the Kerouac 10", too.

Gonna get on downloading some Opeth, I'll let you know what I think once I've had time to digest it.

I don't like As the Roots Undo as much as I probably should, although CTTS is definitely a good LP.

I've got Blackwater Park on AGAIN.

any Aerosmith making it to your essentials? "Toys in the Attic" and "Rocks" are always two of my first classic rock recommendations.

you already got the best of the Stones, which is good.
