Re: Official Pop Music Discussion Thread
What are people's thoughts on Red? Picked up the deluxe edition from Target earlier. I am nearly done with my first listen. I don't know if its better than Speak Now (my favorite album from her), and it probably won't be after further listens. Its still a really good album, in my opinion. Its genre busting, and different as a whole than anything she's done before. I think "Red", "State of Grace", "Starlight" and "I Almost Do" are fantastic tracks. "Stay Stay Stay" and "22" are nice catchy songs. The two collaborative efforts are good tracks. To be honest, I can't find anything on the album that I dislike. This album is going to get many more listens from me, but I feel good about it. Shes 4 for 4 on great albums. Excited about the tour to go with the album, I will surely be going.

I'm underwhelmed by Red tbh, and I had a feeling that I would be as soon as she released Never Ever as the lead single. It's not a bad album, but it's below her standards. Fearless and Speak Now were both much better imo. It still features a good handful of quality songs though, my favorites being State Of Grace and The Last Time.

Agreed. Only listened to it twice through but the only track I really cared for was "Everything Has Changed". Figured it would be a considerable drop off once I heard lame radio track she released. I've come to accept that if an artist/band has given me any reason to be excited about their album then it'll most likely considerably disappoint.

Re: Official Pop Music Discussion Thread
It's been a while since someone posted in this thread, but recent development warrants a bump.
Justin Timberlake is releasing new material next week. He has apparently collaborated with Jay-Z on a new album for a few months now.
This year should usher in an exciting era for pop music, given that we'll see new releases from David Bowie, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, among others. Bring it on!

Fuck yes! I promised myself that I wouldn't succumb to the hype to avoid any disappointment, but I can't help myself.
I just hope it's better than Born This Way.

Re: Official Pop Music Discussion Thread
Meaning you didn't like Born This Way?
BTW seriously jumped up as my favorite album from Gaga yet. Electric Chapel, Scheibe, Judas, Government Hooker, Bad Kids, Bloody Mary, Heavy Metal Lover, Marry The Night, etc. Oh the entire album gives me chills. Only song I'm not particularly crazy about is Americano, but I consider it a solid song at at the worst.
Each of her albums has continue to grow more in my favor. The Fame Monster took out The Fame & Born This Way managed to slightly top The Fame Monster for me. Although it's a relatively thin margin b/c TFM is outstanding bliss for only 8 songs. + containing her best song ever, imo, in Bad Romance.

Re: Official Pop Music Discussion Thread
I was underwhelmed, to say the least. I can admire the fact that she experiments with music genres and wasn't afraid to take risks, but it fell flat in many instances. Where it was successful was in songs like Hair, Electric Chapel, Judas, Heavy Metal Lover, and Government Hooker. That's not to say that it was a terrible album, far from it actually. I just think it was Gaga's weakest showing thus far.
The Fame Monster is a pop classic and the lush, crispy tunes are some of Gaga's best. Alejandro is just nostalgic.

Re: Official Pop Music Discussion Thread
My friend was the same way with it. She claimed it was a touch too "80's" style for her on some tracks. She's warmed up a bit more, but I'm certain she's on the same wavelengths with you judging by your comments. I personally didn't feel that way, but hey, she's made enough goodness to suffice. I'm lucky in saying there has only been one Gaga song that I dislike: Brown Eyes. Outside of that, everything is downright brilliant for the majority.
Alejandro. <3 Good grief, what an addictive song. I love her modesty when she claimed The Fame Monster wasn't much of a "real" album. It was in spades and has to be best album that's under 10 songs. Only one other band can compete with that claim. That's it. I'll take those 8 songs of her's on that one album and have them compete with most albums from any other bands/artists out there. I know, personally, that I'll say Gaga's effort trumps what would be competed against.
Ok, screw it. I love The Fame Monster. Maybe it still has to be on top for me after all.
