When Nickelback or Creed write a song as visceral and intelligent as this, get back to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TAmIm3XFPuY

Which for the most part in Creed, were very tasteful which is why I understand he holds back on Creed and not on Alter Bridge. And as a Creed fan, I understand why people hate them, I hate Stapp too, I just think it's unfair that people bring down the whole band just because Stapp isn't as talented as the rest of his bandmates.

What really stumps me is why they went back to Stapp. Myles Kennedy is a vastly superior singer, guitarist, songwriter, and by all accounts, a better person.

Neither Creed nor Nickelback would be in my top 20 favorite bands.

I lost some respect for Mark when Creed reformed because he openly stated that he'd never go back to Creed. I can't see the issue being about money because he's very well-off from the previous stint with Creed, I think what it really boiled down to was that he missed playing huge crowds. Let's be honest, Alter Bridge never got out of the seedy bars really, I've seen them live three times and they never left the same crappy venues. Creed, on the other hand, is a guaranteed headliner at an arena. So I can't fault him for that because I'm a musician myself and when you haven't played a big show in a while, it can really gnaw away at you. Eh, that's just my two cents on it.

Well, while I'd certainly put hair metal in my guilty pleasure pile, I don't begrudge anyone their love of that.
*looks slyly at his collection of Def Leppard, WASP and Bon fucking Jovi*

I guess there's a little naive part of me that wishes musicians valued integrity over what is, when you boil it down, some ego-stroking. But hey, as a musician who's barely played any seedy bars, never mind big shows, who am I to say?

I love Hair Metal, have since I was a kid and hopefully will forever. I don't like much of what is out these days. Of the new stuff I love Jorn and Disturbed. Bullet For My Valentine are pretty good as well. I don't even listen to the radio these days.

Most of the new bands I listen to (well, relatively new) are fairly obscure - Drive-By Truckers, My Morning Jacket, The Hold Steady, etc. And then some really obscure stuff, like The Technicolor Victrola and Ham Sandwich. But yeah, radio is pretty useless for me, unless I'm in a retro mood, in which case Planet Rock always fits the bill.
Oh, and since I think I'm the only person on this thread not to have mentioned an album they're looking forward to: Soulsavers' Broken
