Re: Official Rock/Metal Discussion Thread
Got my copy of Kamelot's newest outing, Silverthorn yesterday.
Tommy sounds a lot more like Roy here than I thought he would over listens of Seventh Wonder, not sure if it's forced or not, but it does blend well with the riffs of Youngblood. It's a lot more high-tempo than Ghost Opera and Poetry for the Poisoned. Need a lot more listens to form concrete opinions of the tracks, but I'm starting to love it.
Best tracks on first listen: Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife), My Confession, Ashes to Ashes and Song for Jolee.
Fell out of touch with Kamelot. Gave Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife) a listen. Good stuff as I expected. I like the band, but there has never been a pop for them for me to explore their albums outside of The Ghost Opera for some reason. I should change that. Talented bunch of cats. Hell, I saw them in concert and loved them. Yet they fall under the radar.
Upon listening to the said Kamelot song on youtube, I took a gander at the reccomendation list. Stumbled upon this gem:
Already explored more from the group and wow. I'm in love. It's totally my style. Always best to incorporate the symphonic/power metal sound with female vocals for me. Something about the mesh of the beautiful voice with the blasting epic music...I really can't put it into words. It comes together so well. Ahh. Brilliant. It's why I love Nightwish so much. Plus Avantasia's songs where they brought in fantastic singers like Amanda Somerville & Cloudy Yang.

Anyone know of any good albums being released in the hard rock/alt rock genre? I don't know too much about upcoming releases. Just listened to Papa Roach 'The Connection' and Cage9 'How to shoot lasers from your eyes' so music along those lines. Any help would be much appreciated. Cheers!
Would really recommend people to check out Canadian punk rock band, GOB. It includes Tom Thacker from Sum 41. Being a huge 'Skumfuk', I know people would expect me to put over GOB, but they actually are REALLY good. 'Foot in Mouth Disease' is one of my most favourite albums, which is saying a lot. They had anything new since '08 but when I was, along with other fans, in a chatroom with Tom Thacker, he did confirm that they were nearly finished working on their new album, it's just taking a while apparently since Tom is on tour with Sum 41.
Anyways, would really recommend that people check them out. Got really into them over the summer, and it saved me from boredom and such.

Is it sort of similar to Sum 41? I have a love/hate relationship with Punk music. Bands like Sum 41, Rancid, Pennywise, Misfits, and early work of The Offspring are good. (all mainstream how do you like that?) Then there are just other bands that I simply can't tolerate. I'd be able to piece together some names if I cared to remember, but I don't. NOFX is one I dislike. Meh.

Yeah, I'd say it'd be on par with the Sums. Most of GOB's stuff is punk rock with some elements of pop punk in some tunes. Their last album, 'Muertos Vivos' sort've moved into an alternative route much like Sum 41 done with 'Screaming Bloody Murder' and it was well received, and it is quite a cool album. I believed they've toured with bands such as Billy Talent and NOFX. I've also read that they've cited Metallica, Pixies, AC/DC, Minor Threat, Pulp etc. as influences. In my opinion, they're really good. If you don't like them, then you don't like them.
There's some bands I dislike too. Fall Out Boy being one of them. You Me At Six and Paramore being others.

That sounds promising. I dig stuff more on the punk rock/pop punk side. I'll give the group a chance. Could stumble upon a new favorite here.
Oh man, Paramore. I'm a pretty big fan. (what an understatement) HAYLEY

Whatever you prefer I suppose. Not saying any of them aren't talented at what they do or anything, they're just not really for me. My favourites would include Sum 41, Green Day, Sex Pistols, NOFX, Nirvana, Rancid, The Clash, Pennywise etc. whilst I'm also a big fan of other bands such as Blink-182. Have fun listening to GOB though. 'Fed Up', 'Give Up The Grudge', 'I Hear You Calling', 'Everybody's Getting Hooked Up', 'I Cut Myself, Too', 'Soda' and 'Ming Tran' are such great tunes haha.

Yeah they did lol. I wish they'd come to the UK, but sadly there's not really enough of a particular fanbase for them, hence why they only tour Canada and when they tour elsewhere, only seem to open up for other bands. If I'm ever in Canada, I swear I need to see GOB haha.
