I've just checked out Refused's first two albums for the first time. Quite alright records. Nowhere near as good as TSOPTC, tho. One of the greatest albums ever. Wonder if they'll ever have a reunion.

This Just Might Be... The Truth is a pretty okay hardcore album, Songs To Fan The Flames Of Discontent is a great album though I thought. Obviously completely overshadowed by what followed, but I actually heard that album first (Rather Be Dead was the first song of theirs I was exposed to). I can understand not liking it so much if you went from their classic to that, though, there's a real progression.

It is worth mentioning that the New Noise Theology EP is amazing, too. Outside of TSOPTC (quite possibly my favourite album, ever), Blind Date and Poetry Written In Gasoline are two of my favourite Refused songs (stunning cover of Back In Black obviously not withstanding).

My screamo album of the year list just got hijacked by Beau Navire (ex-Iwrotehaikusaboutcannabalisminyouryearbook). I've got the split with Suffix and it's amazing, finally got around to checking out their LP 'Hours'. Great album, and such an improvement on their last 12". I can see this getting a lot of play, 2011 is just kicking my ass.

Not a HUGE fan of Hours, but I'm getting this split if I can find it.

EDIT: Found it. Listening in 4 mins.

Suffix are another really good screamo band with a female vocalist. It's nice that these bands keep popping up.

Also, through the split with Mahria, I'm really getting into Todos Caeran. Luckily a lot of their stuff is distro'd over here, but it's looking like I may need to put in an order from Canada for the Mahria & TC s/t cassettes. Totally worth it.

I'm especially liking the Suffix side of the split.

Yeah that's my favourite part of it.

It's been such a good year for new releases (across all formats) that I'm not even sure how many I'd need to list to get to Touche Amore, which wouldn't happen a few years back. Although in fairness I don't like it as much as the first LP or the demo, anyway, it hasn't grown on me as much as I expected either. Must mean it's time for another listen.

Nirvana aren't my favourite band in the world or anything, but In Utero's a great album, and I rate them higher than bands like Pearl Jam. As far as grunge goes, I don't think either are as good as the likes of Mudhoney, Tad or Green River, though.

Milk It is a fucking spectacular song though.
How many Nirvana fans are gonna realize all that though? So sick of the "overplayed" theory too. When that song came out all those grunge fans/Nirvana fans no matter what year it was went ape for it. I still don't see how something can be overplayed if you love it. I've listened to so many songs so many times and they still get me as pumped or inspired as they always have.

Mudhoney reference. Oh man. I thought I was the only one who remembered them.

And yes, Foo Fighters > Nirvana to harp on what I said a few pages back.

I agree with that, a truly amazing song cannot be heard too much. I just think Teen Spirit is overplayed for what it is. I'll enjoy it if it comes on at a club for example, but if it gets played at a gig I get a little disappointed 'cause I just think they could have made such a better choice, even just picking out of Nevermind singles. But I do have a tendency to be a prick about music.

As a disclaimer, I should point out I like Teen Spirit. I just don't hear the 'greatest Nirvana/grunge/whatever song' hype.

Yeah, Mudhoney are the nuts. Touch Me I'm Sick is probably my favourite grunge single. Killer b-side, too.
