Slightly bias opinion but fuck if this isn't a contender for best live album ever.
Nothing at all against Springsteen (people around here make a BIG deal about the song "Youngstown", but I miss Max on "Conan"), but I'm not a big fan of live albums at all.

I can understand that when it comes to most artists but for some insane reason Springsteen always souns about 10x better live, no idea why but he does, like if I were to make a CD of 20 Springsteen songs to listen to in a car or something there'd only be like 2 or 3 studio tracks, just some sort of batshit energy.
Also Youngstown is only made a real fuss about because of the live version, in studio it was a solo acoustic song that was a bit damp like the whole of the Tom Joad and live... well live they added an awe inspiring guitar solo (4:05):
Actually that might be the reason I prefer live Springsteen - he's not afraid to experiment with songs and shit, I mean he does a different set list every night and actually takes fucking requests, what man plays an 80,000 person stadium and takes fucking requests? Not even major song requests, like when I saw him he played the B-side to a single from 1984 that he hadn't played live in 8 years, spent about 2 minutes saying "I'm gonna fuck this up real bad sorry!" but damn he did and did it well.

I've never been a big fan of the Hammersmith album, as a video or just on it's own as an album, something's just seemed kinda... flat about it to me, I mean there's some awesome stuff there (Bruce crawling off the stage during Spirit In The Night and appearing to take a head bump that would make Foley cringe, LOST IN THE FLOOD) but it just doesn't seem that great to me.
Of course New York features what I consider the definitive version of like 4 great songs - 41 shots, Youngstown, Lost In The Flood, If I Should Fall Behind.
Although I've just noticed the CD is missing some of the DVD tracks, I'm actually pissed off they missed out Bruce just trolling New York for like 2 minutes during Light Of Day (4:30)
But yeah, I have awkward opinions, can understand why someone would like Hammersmith more

I'd agree that there are many artists/bands that sound as good live as on albums, if not better... But when you are referring to a live recording, I MUST disagree.

No; It happens in this area because the town is very near here.

And I must disagree with your disagreement, if you were to ask me to give the proper definitive version of most Springsteen songs I'd have to turn you to the live recordings, for instance could you honestly say this:
is better than this:
?

Ah, wasn't aware you were from that area, then I do understand you knowing the original song then, still most known by casual fans of the man for it's live version though,

Ever heard "If it ain't broke, don't fix it?!"
So you think that an artist should play the exact same song they recorded say... 39 years ago exactly as they recorded it and not play it different at all? What the hell is the point in that? I enjoy hearing an artist mess with their songs,I enjoy hearing different versions of their songs, I don't want to stand at a concert and hear someone just recite a piece of music that even they must be sick of hearing, it's like 2 years ago when I was at a festival, I saw Eminem and Jay-Z within 24 hours of each other, not comparing their music or critiquing that but Eminem stuck to a rigid process of getting through the concert and rapped over the CD instrumentals and... sucked, no emotion, nothing to draw you in, and that was in 3rd row at a fucking festival, next day Jay-Z mixes up his songs a wee bit, has a live band, gives this image that he is experimenting a little and is about 200x better than Eminem the previous night.
That was really all you need post... Otherwise, we'd just become a big, redundant circle.

Likewise, I wasn't aware you posted unneccessary apostrophes. (Sorry; Is a a pet peeve for me sometimes.) Seriously, though, I only know about the song what I've read about it in local papers, etc.; I don't know anything about any version of the song's sound.

I can't say there is one. But WTH is the point in Rock saying he's "finally come back" to every city? Also none. But he knows the fans want to hear it, so he does it.

There are 80 one-hit wonders out there that know what songs they themselves are sick of hearing (that they recorded), but do it anyway. It's ironic you talk about "mess"-ing with a song; There are good changes & bad changes in the cases of many artists... Not all are messes.
This is just raw, feral black metal. A lot of people overlook this album for their later stuff like Battlefields and Purity, but there is a primal and savage feel to this album that the other two lack. 'Inmost Winter' is a ferocious monster of a track.
Does this band have national socialist views? Maybe or Maybe not, as they haven't published the lyrics. It could be just simple Ukrainian pride or the 'Will to Power' philosophy as per Nietscheizm mistaken as Nazi propaganda. For goodness sake, 'Arya' simply means 'Noble' in Sanskrit...nothing racial about it.
However, don't care about shitty ideologies so long as the music's good.
