Ok, I'm committing a sin here....I'm not a *huge* fan of megadeath ....so I'll go Metallica.

Metallica are NOT overrated in any way shape or form. Would you like to go into the tangible things that we can actually measure like record sales, concert sales and the like? Or would you like to see how many bands themselves list Metallica *you know..their peers* as the best or a huge influence? And I really can't believe that most of your friends that know Metallica only know the St Anger album... That album was sub-par to be kind. They would really love Metallica if they heard their entire library.

overrate- to rate or appraise too highly; overestimate
A lot of people overrate them (judge them really high), or give them too much praise based on one song or one hit. Now this is a hypothetical situation, but lets say you were to take someone who doesn't listen to metal too much but knows Metallica slightly. There is a high number of chances that the only song they've heard is "Enter Sandman" or something, and judging by that they claim Metallica to be the best of metal, with disregard to other bands...
Its hard to make myself clear on this subject, but what I am really trying to say that there are a lot of trend followers, who will say Metallica is their favorite band without looking into them. Once again, I like Metallica, and I really have nothing against the guys, but as I said before, I believe people like to think they are the best of metal, right away without looking into it.
Once again, I have nothing against Metallica, I like some of their songs but they are not the best in metal imo. I prefer bands like Iron Maiden or Megadeth. You may not find them overrated at all, but I stand by my point that they are overrated. I think this is more of an opinion rather than a fact, for example you (generally, not specifically) would probably say KISS or The Beatles are overrated, while I probably wouldn't say the same.

I like Rotting Christ, I've heard a couple of their songs and I thought they were good. I'll have to buy some of their albums at some point this year.
Back as to the original question, Metallica or Megadeth?
Personally I'll go with Metallica, but I do like both bands very much. I just think that overall, Metallica are better. I love most of the songs that they have produced and I also think that James has an awesome singing voice and it's one of my favourites.
Also, am I the only one that thought St. Anger was an alright album, I quite liked it.

Actually I made the Rotting Christ reference because Dave Mustaine got them kicked off his tour as their lyrics were against his beliefs but yeah whatever.

I do know Rez, but thanks for reminding me.
Since you brought them up in your last post, I was just saying that I like them.
But talking about Mustine, I was kind of annoyed with his beliefs and him actually doing that. He was a bit up himself to be honest. Still I do like the guy and think his a talented musician. I just don't like the way that he always has to speak about his beliefs and let them change things, like a tour. If you see what I mean?
But I can see why he wouldn't want to tour with them, seeing as they are called Rotting Christ.

I don't know much about Mustaine but what exactly are his beliefs?
And what do Rotting Christ sing about that contradict them?

Re: Rock & Metal Discussion Thread.
Anyone a fan of the legend of music that is Cynic?
I certainly am, have been ever since my cousin from Queens brought over their CD to us on holidays and I loved them. Immediately got Focus imported. This is what I meant in my earlier post as in people stereotyping death metal bands. They're nothing like Cannibal Corpse etc.
Here are some videos close to my heart:

PAUL MASVIDAL IS A LEGEND.
Guitar enthusiasts look at the videos.

Dave Mustaine is a Born Again Christian. Rotting Christ obviously has anti-Christian values. Hence they got booted off Gigantour.

Megadeth are still in my favorite bands though and are awesome.
Another question for the A7x fans like myself what did you think of the new album?
I actually thought it was good but Waking The Fallen & City Of Evil where better.
Atleast it was better then Sounding The seventh trumpet which sucked.

I tought it was a good album but not their best work. Their best album is by far Waking The Fallen.

Re: Rock & Metal Discussion Thread.
Avenged Sevenfold's latest album is brilliant. I liked City of Evil better but this album comes close. "Gunslinger" and "A Little Piece of Heaven" are awesome.
