Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
I've been thinking all day about what to say on this topic and heres my opinion.
Hip Hop and rap are NOT dead IMO. Its about to make a big comeback on some real shit. The reason why most people think it is dead is because NYC has fallin of the map in recent years. NYC is the epicenter of real rap. In the 90's we had guys like BIG, big L, pun, wu-tang, etc. But now its been a mess, but its slowly coming back to greatness. The whole Dip-Set movement has been huge. Hell rell and jr. writer are the future. They spit some real shit sometimes, but thats gangsta rap. But the guy I think that could bring NYC back to glory is Papoose. Hes amazing on the mic. Hes got some of the best lyrics I have ever heard. He talks real shit. I suggest u pick up his mixtape "boyz in the hood", hosted by kay slay. It is better than most ALBUMS. Hes a mix of Nas eminem IMO. The lyrics of em and the flow of nas.
I agree that the south is really fuckin up rap right now, and giving it a bad name. Guys like DFB and mike jones are a joke. I get embarrassed when that shit gets played on the radio. Just because a beat is hot, doesnt mean the song is hot too. On the otherhand i love guys like Ludacris and lil wayne. Weezy is turning into a young jay-z IMO. But Ithink T.I. is highly overrated. dont get me wrong, I like his music, I think KING is a great album, i bought it the day it came out. But he does rap about the same shit over and over IMO.
As for the commercial shit goes, il admit, i like some of it. Ive been a fan of G-unit since back in '02. I hate nelly though, he needs to start speaking english or something, i cant understand half of the stuff he says on songs.
Guys to look out for:
-papoose
-Hot rod
-sam scarffo
-hell rell
-jr writer
-uncle murder
-maino
-tru-life
Shit list:
-snap music
-rhyme fest
-chingy
-most houston rappers
-lupe fiasco(just not feeling his style)

Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
Pappose, Dr. Dre, yukmouth, diplomats, jedi mind tricks, 36 mafia, lil wyte, project pat, bone thugs, tupac, biggie smalls, jay-z, are rappers I listen to currentely and most of those guys are or will be current eventually except for some whom are obviously dead. I hate all that dirty south snap/crunk shit and dont like Chamillonaire either just saying that becuase he seems to be getting a lot of love recentely. Really Rick Ross has one song and it is decent but it is impossible toi judge him on one song.

Nah. Sure I already said this somewhere but I can't find it by just scrolling up soo...Beans is a legend. Best off the Rocafellas roster before that ended, dunno what he's gonna end up doing now though. Hopefully another album's coming.

Last year in the concert with when he came out with Diddy and D-Block he had on a Roc chain.

I can't see that happening though, since it's never worn off me, ever, whereas Rap has. I've loved that stuff since forever, so I don't think I have to worry about that.

Metal's the type of music you listen to forever, you don't just grow out of it or just stop listening to it. I've listened to, or tried to listen to, countless other genres of music and I've just stopped listening to them eventually and I go back to Metallica or Maiden or Pantera or Slayer.

And in my case, switch Pantera and Slayer with Motörhead and Megadeth.
But yeah, I've listened to it for a long time, and it's always kept my interest, unlike other genres like Rap where I used to like it and now can't stand it.
In fact, I don't think I've ever loved Metal as much as I do right now.

Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
I used to be really into Rap, RnB, Drum N Bass; Not surprising as thats what most of my friends listened to. Then I started hearing things like Linkin park, Limp Bizkit and Slipknot. From there I branched out into the bands I like now. I've never really had the urge to go back to RnB and such, it kinda sucks to me now. After you've heard bands like Metallica pull off tracks like Fade to Black; Rap songs become very bland to listen to. Nowadays I can just about listen to Eminem.

Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
I like rap but I don't listen to any mainstream rap. I've heard some of the rappers mentioned above at one point but I just stick to Bay Area California rap. Here is some of the rappers I like.
ADR Lavey
Andre Nickatina
Equipto
Dubee
Malice
Mac Dre
Mac Mall
San Quinn
Tadatay
T-Nutty

It's nice to see some quality music discussion going on here.

I don't understand why people hate Nelly so much. I know he isn't the best MC out there, but he's still pretty good. Lyrically, he's decent at best. He's gotten a bit repetitive over the years. As for his songs, I think they're pretty good. From 'Country Grammar' to 'Grillz', he's kept it consistent. He just needs to start doing more songs like 'Say Now', instead of 'Grillz'.
