Haha word!
Great post, now I feel like I have to do that.
1) Jeru The Damaja- A man who went from rolling with DJ Premier to being so broke he delivers chinese takeaway to people on his bike. A shame, because the man is a lyrical genius. He tells it like it is, without being preachy. His 1st album, the sun rises in the east, was one of the three certified classics of 1994 along with Illmatic & Ready To Die (3 classics in one year? think about that now ). He's only messed up a bit when he tried producing an entire album by himself, but lyrically the man is supreme and deserves a bigger fanbase than he gets at the moment. ( Yeah I'll do it in your format outta respect for your post )Fave track- Ya Playin Yaself. Straight murdering the shallow hip hop majority. Favourite story track- Can't stop the prophet- Held in legend for good reason. Multilayered. Favourite lyrical track- Rap Wars. Okay so the track is Public Enemy Number 1, but he rips it. Favourite Album: Wrath Of The Math
2) Eminem- Constantly gets ripped from so-called 'real' hip hop fans, for um, being white, but is one of (if not the the most skilled MCs and best all round lyricists of the last ten years. Look past his celebrity and his chart success: Look past his colour for a second: The man absolutely murders the microphone. Underground emcees (and er, Rhymefest and Jin) hold dear battle victories over him. Nobody dares step to him in a battle, and it's easy to see why- Ja Rule, Benzino, even the horrendously overrated Canibus got ripped. Unlike so many white MCs who go on to chart success (and constantly grace the cover of NME, urgh), Eminem loves hip hop, and if we erase the memory of a few bad songs off Encore, we can see that he is one of the greats. Favourite track: 8 Mile. Incredible Stuff. Favourite story track- Stan. Sorry. Stan's one of my all-time favourite's, and it's proof of Eminem's creative mind- he conjured up this scenario from a slightly obsessive fan. Favourite lyrical track- Infinite or Business. Favourite Album: Marshall Mathers LP
3) KRS-One- You have to like Kris whether you think he's 'preachy' or not because he's dedicated to hip hop, which is the mistake hip hop itself is making right now. The man who commanded authority from his young days is now unfortunately selling independent albums too- A good indication of how the game'll screw you for making good music. He still drives out more focused albums than half the popular MCs around would struggle to create- Using relevant topics and real skills. Check him out. Favourite Track: Hush- This is how to put passion into a track. Favourite Story Track: 9mm Goes Bang, Favourite Lyrical Track: Outta Here, basically gave Busta the concept for legend of the fall offs. Favourite Album: Boogie Down Productions: By All Means Necessary:
4) Rakim- Still the best flow in hip-hop. Created at least the second best hip hop album with Eric B, but sort of went downhill a bit from there. His solo albums were excellent, but thanks to Dre focusing more on turds like G-Unit and, okay, Game, his album got shelved. Hopefully, because of all his guest spots on big records (TI? Nas?) he'll get an album coming our way at some point, but being often argued as the best rapper in history, noone's going to forget about him. No doubt, the best flow ever, and when he bothers, some tight lyrics too. Favourite Track: As The Rhyme Goes On, overused sample in hip hop but stunning stuff from the R. Favourite Story Track: From him?! New York's tight, that's close Favourite Lyrical Track: Uplift, R rips this one. Favourite Album: Come on...Eric B & Rakim: Paid In Full:
5) Nas- He's tremendously overrated, and hasn't been the same since Illmatic, but when he can be bothered he rips it. Some of God's Son was heat: Get Down? Made You Look? Actually all of it apart from a couple tracks was brutal. A few tracks on Street's Disciple were also great, but he needs to be provoked to raise his game- Ether, for instance. Let's hope 50 was that provocation. Favourite Track: Get Down, Favourite Story Track: Last Real ***** Alive, true story as well Rewind was also tight, done well Favourite Lyrical Track: Anything off Illmatic Favourite Album: Illmatic
That's yer lot, I gotta go. Might do more later. Woop woop.

Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
My Top 5 of All Time
1.Rakim
2.Pac
3.Nas
4.Biggie
5.Jay-Z
Honorable mentions
Common
Tribe Called Quest
Eminem (pre-8mile)
Mos Def
Ice Cube
When real hip hop heads talk about MC's like Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Kanye, Common, MF Doom, Slum Village, Aceyalone, RJD2, Esoteric, Blackalicious, Dave Ghetto or Lupe Fiasco the mainstream has no clue of what your talking about. All they see and hear are either the likes of Puff being arrogant, 50 Cent being ignorant or D4L or Little John hollering nonsense on the mic with no real lyrics. Most people have no clue that just like jazz is a complex and deep art form so is hip hop with the guys I named in the first sentence. Mainstream America has no clue that there's a difference between hip-hop and rap, they couldnt tell you what underground hip-hop means or that the hip hop culture isn't just an urban black thing.

Exactly. Hip hop at the moment is being stereotyped as ignorant and destructive, yet when it was formed the culture was created to bring people together. The problem is, there are great artists with a positive message and real skills out there, who aren't exploiting hip-hop, but they're never used as a convenient example. If you talk about hip-hop being like poetry, people'll shit on you.

Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
I hate hip-hop. The only guy I actually kind of like is Nelly. Actually, it's odd, the only hip-hop group I really enjoy listening to is Gorillaz (which is led by a white British dude). I don't know if Gorillaz are fully hip-hop but they're sometimes classified as hip-hop. I used to like guys like 50 Cent and Chingy but I went through a musical overhaul towards late 8th grade when I heard stuff like Nirvana and Iron Maiden for the first time. Since then, hip-hop is unlistenable by me and rock rules all.

Re: My Random Thoughts On Hip-Hop
Luck fuckin killed her with that Ante Up line.
Remy was fucking horrible. I can only think Luck didn't diss her enough cos Remy only started rhymin at the end, and compared to Luck she was wack anyway.
As for female MCs, Chyna Whytes pretty good. Not Lady sovereign anyway.
