Weird but Jigga always seems to hold it down whenever he spits on someone else's. On that new Beyonce song (yer), he ripped it. He ain't sayin nothin new, but it'll be good when he comes back proper. Yeah, he will.

Jeez. Anyone go to allhiphop.com? Check the songs, two legends have fallen off- Xzibit's new song Concentrate has one of the sickest beats I've heard in ages but he's terrible. He's actually lost interest, seems like his film career's priority.

As for DJ Premier, he hasn't been good in ages, but whatever. Keith Murray did alright though.

The State Of Hip-Hop Now
As you may or my not know, I am a Hip-Hop fan. I've been a fan since some time in the 90's. I wasn't really a big fan, just a causal fan. I remember hearing classic stuff like 'Big Poppa', 'Mo Money, Mo Problems', and other classics like those all the time. The music was so good back then, but know I look at the game and I'm thinking "Damn, what happened?"

Half the songs out now are just club songs and stuff. I'm not saying I don't like club songs, in fact, I love club songs, but it's kinda low quality stuff. I mean, there were alot of club songs back in the 90's and if you compare them to the ones today, you'll know what I'm talking about. I mean, there's nothing wrong with making club songs, but it just sounds like most of the artists that make them today aren't really that good at it.

Now, there are a few shining lights in the game that are saving it. Rappers like T.I., NaS, Ludacris, Chamillionaire, Kanye West, and others that are really helping the game out. We just need more rappers like them, instead of rappers like D4L.
I miss rap in the 1990's. I mean today's rap/hip hop is just crap, I admit it. With the exception of T.I. and a few other rappers like Nas, Ludacris, etc. Otherwise the genre is just weak in general. Hell you got to even look back to the early 90's with A Tribe Called Quest. IMO one of the most underrated hip hop groups of all time. They had classic songs like Scenario, Award Tour, Check The Rhyme, and Can I Kick It? They didn't rap about drugs, women, and shit like that. They made their own rhymes and just had a laid back style , I miss that presence that today's rap/hip hop doesn't have. Then the mid 90's was dominated by 2pac, Notorious B.I.G. and hell even my favorite Rap group of all time Bone Thugs N Harmony were on top of the scene too. Crossroads was one of the biggest selling rap single of the 90's, if not the biggest. Yeah Rap will never be the same again, it's not coming from the heart anymore like it used to. It's not real anymore...

Quote:
50 Cent

I might be one of the few who actually think 50 is a good rapper. I know he isn't the best, but there's no denying that he has talent. I've listened to both his albums and I wasn't disappointed. It's just his flow that kinda gets me at times. I mean, he could be rippin' it at one point, then he just loses it at the next point. If he just fixed that, he'd be alright.
Meh, I don't care for 50 Cent he is wack. The only song of his I like his Outta Control (Remix) featuring Mobb Deep. That's a tight song. He is the most overrated rapper out there though IMO. I don't care for his voice, and his lisp at all. He also doesn't have to mention getting shot 9 times in each one of his songs.

Quote:
T.I.

What can I say about one of my favorite rappers? The guy is just a great rapper. Why is he such a great rapper? It's all about his consistency. Go all the way back to I'm Serious and follow his albums. He has stayed consistant throughout his whole career. Not many rappers can stay consistant like that. Now, I'm just counting the days on my calandar for T.I. vs T.I.P.
Absolutely, he is the greatest rapper out today. Undeniably the king of the south, it ain't Luda (). I do agree with you the guy has consistency. All of his albums thus far have been good, but his most recent album King has to be my favorite. There are only a few songs I don't care for on the album, but the rest is great. Bankhead, What You Know, I'm Talkin To You, Ride Wit Me, King Back, Front Back, Top Back, Why You Wanna, etc. All are great songs.

Quote:
Ludacris

My favorite rapper. I love this guy's flow and the way he raps. This guy is the King of the South. You want proof? Listen to all his ablums and you'll know.

Now, the only thing that I find wrong with him is the fact that he jokes around alot. But even when he jokes around, he's still cold with it. But he's gonna have to step it up and show everybody that he's still the king when he releases Release Therapy
I do like Ludacris, but he is not my favorite and IMO T.I. is better. Yeah Luda's problem is he does joke around a lot, bu he likes to have fun and that's not a bad thing. Some of my favorite Luda songs are Move Bitch, Splash Waterfalls, Stand Up, Get Back, Southern Hospitality, etc. I'm not really a fan of the stuff he has put out in the last few years. I hated the song "Pimpin All Over The World" just didn't care for it at all. He is one of the saviors in the game today, I agree.

Quote:
NaS

Do I even need to say anything about him?
Yes, he put out one of the best rap albums of all time Illmatic. If you don't have that or never heard of it you are not a true rap/hip hop fan, point blank. His flow and lyrics are amazing on that album, and the thing is I believe he was only 20 years old at the time. He has not been as good as he used to be as of late, but he's still better than 99% of the rappers out today. He is on 2pac's and Biggie's level, no doubt about that.

Quote:
Nelly

My 2nd favorite rapper. What can you say about this guy? He's great. I've been a fan of him since Country Grammar. He's has the uncanny ability to make a simple rhyme sound great. I don't know how he does it. All I know is, he needs to keep doing it because it's working for him.
I don't like Nelly anymore, he reminds me of Ja Rule. He came out with some good shit on his first album like Country Grammer, E.I., etc. I lost respect for him after making a ton of pop songs like Dilemma, and all that shit. The worst was the duet with Tim McGraw (Over and Over again) what was he thinking? Nelly is wack IMO.

Quote:
Juelz Santana

After listening to What The Game's Been Missing!, I'm a fan.
This guy is growing on me. I love that song Clockwork, and There It Go (The Whistle Song) is alright. He is still very young though (only 22) and I can't wait to see what the future holds for Mr. Santana.

Quote:
Cam'ron

He's decent, but needs to improve.
I've only heard 2 songs from him so far, Oh Boy and Hey Ma. I really like both of them, I need to listen to the song you uploaded for me though. It does seem like he needs to improve, those are his only 2 really known hits. The ones I just mentioned.

Quote:
Eminem

A legend in my books.
Em was great back in the day, but Encore was terrible. The only good song off of that album was "Encore." He is still tremendously overrated, but still great nonetheless. There is not too much to say about him though, we all know what he is capable of. Hopefully he will bring it again with that mixtape he is coming out with soon.

Quote:
Yung Joc

If he got his own style, he could get better.
Shit at first I hated the song "It's Goin Down." I guess it was his voice, but after hearing it a few more times it grew on me now I love that song. He is new to the game, so the best is yet to come from him. He has people talking though...

Quote:
Clipse

I'm glad they're back.
They had some hot songs back in the day, Grindin and When The Last Time were both pretty big. They have room for improvement, but I have to admit I'm a fan of them.

Nice post DM.

Oh shiit,I gotta stick my oar in again...

- TI the king of the south? TI doesn't talk about anything apart from how great he is on the mic and how he shoots people (apart from the occasional by-the-numbers girl song), and for all around skills he's not Ludacris. Neither of them are exactly deep, but then again neither of them are King of the south. Scarface is. Lyrical skills? Not in bundles. Deep subject matter and great storytelling skills? Yeah. He's in the same boat as KRS, although KRS is a better MC.

Can't believe I forgot Tribe. In fact I forgot the whole Native Tongues. Tribe back in the day were awesome, one of the greats, and I've heard rumours they're reforming. I gotta say I'm not looking forward to it- I think they're missing that member who didn't do anything, or at least nobody knew what he did (can't remember his name ) not only that bombshell but did anyone hear tip on Busta's album? He sounded kind of weak to me. Probably just me.

Common is the guy people should be championing for Kanye's work- Not Kanye. There is an incredible amount of dispute about whether 'Be' was a classic, and in my view, it's a flawless album. He doesn't waste a breath, and it's such a rarity to have a focused album with as few as 11, 12 tracks being pushed out to the minstream thanks to Kanye. Here's hoping Common's genius and Kanye's expert work behind the boards won't falter with the follow up.

Haha, Over & Over and N Dey Say are great examples of why Nelly isn't a top class MC. He goes for the pop dollar within a minute- it's pretty obvious he doesn't care about hip hop culture, disrespecting KRS One too. The battle with Kris started out of sheer disrespect for a legend rather than your average beef that the norm nowadays. Mind you that's how KRS used to roll.

Clockwork and There It Go are straight wack. Sorry. Juelz could put the final nail into hip hop's coffin by releasing an album full of 'club bangers' like those embarassments.

Joc is wack also. Another Dirty South rapper with as much depth as a paddling pool, without the skills to carry it off.

Clipse's second album could be a good use of Pharrell's time, if he ever bothers to release it.

Believe me, eventually somebody will come along and wrest control away from the club orientated stereotypical shite we see now. It could feasibly be Kanye, Common, Lupe et al.

Ok, well T.I. obviously isn't the best lyricist out there. Nor is he even close, I don't know why but I am just a huge mark for this guy. A lot of his songs are good and his beats are tight. I haven't heard much from Scarface but I know he is a storytelling rapper like you mentioned. I need to download some shit from him. A little off topic, I see you have a quote from Rakim in your sig, Eric B. and Rakim were the shit in the late 80's as well. Man was Rakim a lyricst or what? The guy was unbelievable. I mean songs like Paid In Full, Let The Rhythm Hit Em, I Know You Got Soul, I Ain't No Joke, My Melody, Follow The Leader are all classics. I love their stuff.

Really? I didn't know they were coming back, if they do I don't think they will have much success. What if they try and go back to their older roots? What will today's rap/hip hop fans think about that? I wouldn't want them to change their style, they already have a great legacy in hip hop history for not talking about all the common rap shit that is out today. Stick to your orginial style, and don't try to impress the fans. Make music you want to make, I appreciate how they did that back in the early 90's. They should stay broken up IMO. I didn't hear Tip on Busta's new album, but you got to realize he is getting older and he's just not the same as he used to be. I remember him first coming out solo in like 1999 with Vibrant Thing and Breathe and Stop, it just wasn't his style. His solo career has gone nowhere, unfortunately.

Yep because tip went commercial with all the club joints. I don't see whats so good about Joe Budden his mood musik 2 mixtape was straight but his career ended when Game ethered him. I like T.I. but he needs to stop going at Luda its over man Luda murdered him on God of War and Stomp.

What poor poor poor examples. Sorry. Those guys are exactly what sucks about Hip-Hop now a days along with all of the 50 members of G-Unit. Ok Ludacris isn't that bad but T.I. is overrated shit that only gets praise because the genre is in such a fucking mess, same goes for Chamillionaire.

It's all a matter of opinion. It's true that T.I. and Chamillionaire are getting a lot of praise at the moment, I'm guessing it's 'mostly tha voice'...and yer the tight beats.

D-Block are shite, quite frankly. Jadakiss can be alright with the punchlines and clever lyrics on his day, but I wouldn't even put Styles and Louch on G-Unit's level. And Nas and Jigga aren't going to save hip hop at all. They probably think they are, but they'll feed the fans the same old stuff (which'll still be better than whats being sold at the moment), and people'll worship them. That's true and you know it, and I hold them in pretty high regard.

And Rakim, of course, is a legend. Lyrically, he doesn't usually veer off from talking about himself but he can back it up, the man has skills for days. He can still go, too- Check some of the songs he's been on recently (eg After U Die by Dre and him a couple of years ago- I think Dre used the same sample on Busta's Legend of the fall offs. Rakim kills the beat and actually talks about something, though, and all round it's a top song. His aftermath album never came out so you'll probably have to download it ) Should be interesting to see if his Nas album feature's any good.

Hip Hop threads, to me only threads worth putting time into posts...

The State of Hip Hop to the public is horrible in my eyes. The South has tooken over sadly... and all the songs sound the same. These Hip Pop tracks have no real messages behind them, they are simply made to make money. Can't blame the artists, it what the majority of the fans want to hear. Rappers gotta eat. But the State Of Hip Hop is My eyes is, Its stronger then ever! The reason why, is because since what I see on MTV is horrible, but it makes me appreciate those certain artists who give us real hip hop even more... Let me break down my Top 10 Rap Artists, and other Big Rappers with my opinions on them...

1) NaS - THIS MAN IS HIP HOP! If you really want to know what Hip Hop is all about, Let me make you a Mix CD of His Greatest Hits from Illmatic all the way to Street's Disciple. After you hear it, you'll know what Hip Hop is. Hes my favorite Artist, the man is a legend. Nasir Jones has changed my views of Music, has changed my way of looking at life. Made me realize whats most important in life. Is Passion. For whatever... Myself and NaS' passion, is Hip Hop. Favorite Track: One Love Remix (illmatic 10th Anniversary) Favorite Story Track : Rewind (The Originality! Amazes Me!) Favorite Lyrical Track: NY State Of Mind (His Flow! No One comes close to it!) Favorite Album - Stillmatic

2) Eminem - First Rapper I ever REALLY listened to. Instantly became a fan... I Give Eminem the biggest thank you simply because if he never would of came out I wouldn't of ever listened to other rappers I listen to now. He got me into Hip Hop, then got me to expand my listenings into other artists he would mention. Slim Shady LP classic, Marshall Mathers LP BRILLIANT ALBUM! The Eminem Show One Of the Best Hip Hop Albums Ever Made! Encore... Ya.... It was good... Hes accomplished so much, and got so far in a genre that NEVER seen a successful, and talented White Man. Favorite Track: Business, Favorite Story Track: Sing For the Moment, Favorite Lyrical Track: The Way I Am.. Favorite Album - Eminem Show

3) Jay-Z - A lot like NaS, that man is HIP HOP. And on top of that, he still gives the clubs and MTV what they want to hear. Best of Both Worlds without R. Kelly... Lyrical Genius. He can tell stories in his tracks, those punch lines like nobody else. Favorite Story Track from him "Meet the Parents" Favorite Lyrical Track "Moment Of Clarity" & "Renegade W Em" Favorite Track "Justify My Thug" Favorite Album - The Black Album

4) Talib Kweli - First album I heard from him was Black Star with Mos Def. Everytime I listen to it, it Reminds me of what Hip Hop used to be. Old School sound
