Top 10 all time albums

Yiss.

Basically compile your ten favourites, and if you want, explain what makes them so special to you.

Basically, I'd go:

1 - Definitely Maybe (Oasis), due to pretty much every song having had a special meaning to me at any point in my life;

2 - Construção (Chico Buarque), Bossa Nova stuff by the man I consider the greatest songwriter of all time.

3 - Por Esse Rio Acima (Fausto), again, stuff sang in portuguese, that's pretty much a concept album on a very important part of my country's history, with amazing lyrical contributions and even more spectacular instrumentals.

4 - Rain Dogs (Tom Waits), quite obviously the coolest scumbag of all time. The Heart of Saturday Night could be in this place too, but in the end I settled for what I believe is his best work, even if I may like the other one slightly more.

5 - Unknown Pleasures (Joy Division), for dancing like a retard while depressed as fuck. It's actually a perfect combination.

6 - The Queen Is Dead (The Smiths), for the best of Morrissey's depressing as fuck writing and the best of Johnny Marr's godlike guitar work.

7 - Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) (Wu-Tang Clan), IMO the best hip hop group of all time with the greatest hip hop album of all time. Every song flows perfectly in and of themselves and into one another, and in between amazing wordplay and masterful insertion of cinematic/historical references, all the way to raw and gripping tales of social injustice, this becomes clearly a landmark in music history.

8 - Eastern Sounds (Yusef Lateef), could not tell you how many times I heard this in a single day, for how many days in a row. The opening track is absolutely gorgeous, but to me the whole thing reaches its peak with Love Theme from Spartacus, an absolutely sublime take on the theme song from one of the greatest movies ever made.

9- Highway to Hell (AC/DC), because fuck you, that's why.

10 - The Stone Roses (The Stone Roses), ranging from the most atmospheric shit to the most danceable, just purely E-driven happy as fuck tunes, every single song in this invokes so many different emotions in you, it's impossible not to like it.

Honorary mention to Rattus Norvegicus by The Stranglers, the most underrated punk band of all time.

Now you go.

Re: Top 10 all time albums

Don't even think i can name 10 albums off the top of my head.....

Not really a music fan but i just like to be nosey more than anything else.

my top 3 though are

1) The Streets: A grand don't come for free. (truly a life changing album for someone going through a tough time)

2) Avril Lavigne. Let Go. (First album i ever bought with my own money so it has a lot of sentimental importance to me)

3) Jeff Wayne's. War of the worlds. (used to always listen to it with my Dad growing up so it has a lot of nostalgia and good memories for me) Also it is actually amazing, although i am not sure if its considered an Album, More of a work of art i guess.

Re: Top 10 all time albums

I'm gonna' keep it to one album per artist...

Blood On The Tracks - Bob Dylan
Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust - David Bowie
Power, Corruption & Lies - New Order
Houses Of The Holy - Led Zeppelin
Illmatic - Nas
Exile On Main St. - Rolling Stones
Transformer - Lou Reed
Funeral - Arcade Fire
Rain Dogs - Tom Waits
In Utero - Nirvana

Really hard to pick 10. Loads of others I could put on there on another day. This was what I thought of first though.

Re: Top 10 all time albums

Extremely hard to do. I'll follow Bunz and try to do one album per artist.

The Beatles- Revolver
The Beach Boys- Good Vibrations
Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon
Bruce Springsteen- Darkness on the Edge of Town
Led Zeppelin- IV
Oasis- Definitely, Maybe
John Lennon- Plastic Ono Band
Simon and Garfunkel- Sounds of Silence
Blink 182- Enema of the State
Fleetwood Mac- Rumors

And also all of Taylor Swift's discography as well :mj

Houses of the Holy is my favorite from Zep, but I think IV is probably a more "important" album if that makes sense. Put DOEOT because that's my personal fav from Springsteen, although three others could make the cut. Honorable mentions to Dylan and Misfits too.

Born to Run? The River? Nebraska?

OR THE INFINITELY UNDERRATED SEEGER SESSIONS?

Darkness on the Edge of Town does trump them all, though.

Born to Run, The River, and The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle are also favorites. Nebraska/Born in the USA also great too.

Hard to pick a top 10 without forgetting someone, but one thing I am SURE of is that "A Night At The Opera" by Queen will forever be my number one album.
