Was thinking of putting this thread in the technology section, but maybe some old school style posters in here can help me.
So last week I bought a Crosley CR8005A like this one:
The first record I bought, a 180g Pink Floyd- Dark Side of the Moon played well on there. I mean the sound quality isn't anything amazing, but its decent enough for me. But now I got two other records (both brand new by the way), and the records just skip all over the place, its impossible to enjoy the album. I don't mind a skip or two here and there but this was ridiculous. I thought that it might have been a defective record, but its happened with two new ones. I looked up reviews and read that this crap is the dirt worst turntable, so I've decided to return this trash.
Now I need a replacement, but am not looking for a super one that will cost like 500 bucks or whatever. I just need something good that doesn't skip around like a bitch. Not too fussed about sound quality as I'm okay as long as it is loud enough to hear and what not.
My preference is a record player with built in speakers. I know they aren't the best kind, but surely there is a decent one out there (that is better than that Crosley trash). I've seen some decent priced ones with anti-skating or a weighted tonearm, but they require a preamp and/or external speakers. I don't have either and would rather just get one that plays nicely.
Any recommendations would be lovely. I want to stay under $200 for a decent player. I'll even look at options that require an external speaker if they are cheap and rated.
