List time! Albums/Tracks of the year 2014

Its that time of year again….

1 D’Angelo – Black Messiah
Yeah so it just came out last week, I don’t care, Album OTY. How does a guy disappear for 14 years then pick up exactly where he left off and still be both totally relevant and in his own lane at the same time. Dudes music just does something to me, no ones calmer, more composed and writes as many throwaways melodies that end up stuck in your head. Sonically too this album is like a 3 course meal, pretty sure I’ll be jamming this album for years to come.
Spoiler for really love:

2 Run The Jewels 2
Instant classic, non trivial, pissed off, grown ass man hip hop. First album was great but this is even greater. Saw them live last night and they fuckin tore it up.
Spoiler for Don’t Cry:

3 Earth – Primitive and Deadly
Best ever Earth album, or the only Earth album that doesn’t get boring after 25 minutes, yeah Earth 2 is a classic but who ever actually listens to that album? This one is much more enjoyable listen, makes me want to walk up a mountain.
Spoiler for Zodiacal Light:

4 Jozef Van Wissum & Squrl – Only Lovers Left Alive (soundtrack)
I guess this is technically 2013 but Im counting it, and mostly just for the JVW solo tracks (although the other stuff is cool), this is the most played album in my car for this year, cool for long drives and soothing sounds for being stuck in traffic.
Spoiler for Our Hearts Condemn Us:

5 Marissa Nadler – July
Choons to die for, this is like her 5th album and she just keeps getting better, love every track on here
Spoiler for Dead City Emily:

6 YOB – Clearing the Path to Ascend
Metal album of the year, they’ve never made a bad one wasn’t expecting such a classic at this stage of the game, fucking mountainous stuff.
Spoiler for marrow:

7 Slomatics – Estron
Another heavy one. Ive been tight bros with these guys for years but that’s not why they get in, their best album yet and still the most outrageously heavy guitar tone on the block
Spoiler for futurian:

8 Emma Ruth Rundle – Some Ocean Heavy
Cheers to Crusade for putting me on to this, gorgeous late night haunty folky music, some great acoustic guitar work on this record too.
Spoiler for Arms I Know:

9 Mark Lanegan – Phantom Radio
Its Lanegan, still a badass motherfucker and still writing classic tunes, that’s list worthy
Spoiler for the Wolf:

10 Azealia Banks – Broke with Expensive Taste
Who the fuck thought this mad bitch would ever get an album out, let it alone it be pretty good. I like how in all her twitter wars over the years she’d bury fuckers and all they could say was “yeah but your album never came out lol”, now they cant even say that anymore, well done Ms Banks, you’ve made to the most prestigious end of year list
Spoiler for Desperado:

Honourable mentions and shit that would’ve made my list if Id listened to it more:

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib – Pinata
Primordial – Where Greater Men have Fallen
Big K.R.I.T – Cadillactica
Pharmakon – Beastial Burdon
Goat – Commune
Jack White – Lazaretto
The Wytches – Annabel Dream Reader
ZOM - Flesh Assimilation
Flying Lotus - Youre Dead

probably a few im forgetting but that'll do for now
