Default Any Mars Volta fans in here??

I used to love At The Drive in, When they broke up and the band split into 2 bands I never really gave The Mars Volta or Sparta a listen. But recently a friend turned me on to The Bedlam in Goliath and I have been HOOKED! I posted a few pics of Cedric on Instagram last month and he was kind enough to comment and repost them on his own Instagram.

I'm a fan of both At The Drive-In and The Mars Volta.

Bedlam in Goliath is pretty amazing.

Huge fan, one of my favourite bands of recent times in fact, saw them play at a festival when the first album came out and instantly thought they were a greater band than ATDI ever were (not a popular opinion I know, I do love ATDI too but even I think they get a little overrated), saw them again on the Bedlam tour play a fucking epic 3 hour show that ranks among the best Ive ever seen, just mindblowing. Two of the alltime great drummers imo in those lineups too with Pridgen and Theodore.

Love pretty much all the albums with the exception of Octahedron which blows, they were burned out at that stage with Omar doing so much solo stuff (lots of which is pretty great, esp that one acoustic album whose name escapes me). Amputechture would be my fave overall though that one also took me longest to get into.

Shame they didnít have more success, I can totally see why people would hate them but they just tick the right boxes for me, far more groove than most prog bands, and just the right mix of psych, krautrock, noise and ambience.

Btw Omar and Cedric have a new band right now called Antemasque, they just put out an ep with Flea on bass, first few listens have done nothing for me though.

I was wondering if they would do another project together, Thanks for the info, I will check it out.

Also thoughts on Frances the Mute? I listen to that one a lot too.

FTM is another masterpiece imo, I mean holy shit at the 30 minute closing track, no other band could pull that off. There used to be a fan forum where this one guy would do these insane, book length breakdowns of all the lyrics and themes of each album, wish I could still find them, total geeky shit but fun to read, I recall the Francis ones being really good.

btw when I said they had 2 alltime great drummers I shouldve said 3, this guys great too

(not technically Volta but he did end up in the final lineup)

I saw their former drummer Thomas Pridgon with Trash Talk last year. He kills it for a guy who uses 1 pedal

FTM was played pretty much non stop for a year when it came out. It's brilliant. I stopped listening to them shortly after that album for whatever reason, but their first albums would both probably rate in my top 10 of all time. The drumming on Deloused is second to none.

It's been some years since I listened to their tracks but they are alright.

Cicatriz Esp was freaking amazing. As was The Widow, Cassandra Gemini, Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus and Tetragrammaton to mention a few.
