Yeah. I think De/vision only became a very good band later on in their career. Some of their latter day songs sound as if Cevin Key from Skinny Puppy/Download was producing Depeche Mode, and that sold it for me. I love bands that push forward the gritty side of synthpop with fresh ideas. Not enough of those tbh

I have a hard time with repetition in music so the EBM genre isn't really my thing in general, but both VNV and A23 are great at evoking emotion with simple yet meaningful & powerful lyrics to fit their sound. That somehow drew me to their music many years ago (to my own surprise). lol.

Thats the reason I didnt really get attached to de/vision. They were a bit much of a DM clone for me.

Thats why I got a hard time with VNV's new album thats mostly instrumental.

I can agree with you that ebm can be repetitive but most of the times the lyrics makes me forget it, plus its great music for the training and the club dancing.

I won't disagree with you entirely on the clone thing since that's the general consensus, and Steffen Keth's voice DOES sound frightenly similar to Dave Gahan's (just listen to What you Deserve, that could legit pass off as a DM track). But the synths they use, and the techniques are very different. De/Vision's sound is a bit more analog and experimental. You really need to delve deep into their catalog to notice how different they are. They're very underrated even though their upbeat material doesn't do it for me most of the time (which are the tracks they usually promote as singles, unfortunately).

My love affair with VNV starts with Praise the Fallen and ends with Futureperfect, I might've heard the Matter + Form album and a few recent songs on Youtube, but it's vague at this point. I did listen to the intro/outro on Judgement because someone made an great Blade Runner montage with them.

Empires/Burning Empires albums were bloody awesome

I wont lie, I havent listen that much to de/vision for years. Might listen now thou since it seems they found a more personal sound.

If you haven't, you should give Automatic a chance. In my opinion it's up there with futureperfect. I love how all the tracks tells a story together from the beginning of industrialism to our future.
Nova(shine a light on me) is one of the best tracks recently from VNV.

Just gave it a spin. VNV certainly made their music more accessible, and there's something very celestial about the lyrics. The melody and overall theme of the song is quite moving.

Here's an old gem. This might be my favorite VNV track, if not, it's close. The lyrics are heartbreaking.

yeh, further is also one of my favorite songs.

I like this one too.

And this is so beautiful

Not VNV, but Bruderschaft with Ronan Harris on guest vocals. Powerful lyrics about Rexx Arkanas dad who passed away in cancer.
