Funk Music - Suggestions?

Want to start getting into some new music an funk is a genre I'm really liking at the moment. Getting into the Ohio Players a little bit and I'm really liking it.

Do you guys have any artist or album suggestions?

Re: Funk Music - Suggestions?

If you listen to lots of golden age rap, you should be able to pick bands based on what is being sampled. Funk is probably my second favorite genre after hip-hop and there are lots of good stuff that I enjoy.

Funkadelic-Parliament, Kool & the Gang, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Gil Scott-Heron, Roy Ayers, Sly & the Family Stone, Isaac Hayes just to name a few.

I'll add The Commodores, Edwin Starr and Earth, Wind and Fire to that^ list. Probably more I'm not thinking of.

Funkadelic - Maggot Brain is a must.

That's the main reason I've been getting into the genre actually.

I wasn't even aware Kool and the Gang was funk. I just picked up their record last night. That's perfect ATM.

Yeah, haven't heard Edwin Starr but Commodores and EWF are great.

The Isley Brothers are also worth a mention.

And let's not neglect George Clinton's solo material.

George Clinton is a must for me honestly. For as many songs I've heard him being sampled. My lord.
