Re: Funk Music - Suggestions?

thread is sticky-worthy imo

I could watch vids of Bootsy just playing riffs and going "ugh yeah" all day, wish these were like an hour long, the funk just pours through the guy

You can't help but smile watching Bootsy play. He always looks like he's having the time of his life.

Shout outs to the Commodores, The Bar-Kays, and Con Funk Shun incoming. Especially Commodores' "Easy". Shhhhhiiiiitttttttttt, it is the textbook for all laid back, mid tempo funk jams. The matriarch of them all.

Spoiler for :moyes1:

Look at the radio stations Bounce FM & Master Sounds on GTA San Andreas and you're guaranteed gold. That's how I got into funk. And after playing GTA V:

Would KC & The Sunshine Band qualify?

EDIT:

Forgot about this beat

Re: Funk Music - Suggestions?

Anyone here listen to the Bamboos? They're a latter day Australian Deep Funk band with two fantastic singers on their roster. Very much worth checking out, and they've been consistantly good throughout most of their career. They're very much rooted in pure traditionalist Funk, not too much hybrid although there's traces of nu-Jazz throughout some of the tracks. They're not a singles band so it's hard to recommend individual songs.

Here are two random tracks from both singers:

w/Alice Russell

w/Kylie Auldist

Was also checking out the new Thundercat album Apocalypse the other day. This is what you get if you mix Sly & ATFS with a more talented version of the Weeknd. Definitely has it's great moments.
