This is a thing of beauty. Might as well turn it into the funk/soul appreciation thread now!

If we're gonna put some soul with the funk.

I love professional-wrestling.

Re: Funk Music - Suggestions?

There's been some great shouts itt (namely Sly & TFS and Funkadelic). Betty Davis and WAR are essentials that haven't been named already.

For something modern, this came out a month ago, and sounds every bit as good as the best 70's stuff imo.

Re: Funk Music - Suggestions?

Some really good mentions in here already. You want funk then get some Ohio Players in your life my brother.

One of the funkiest concert albums I have heard in my life is James Brown's Love Power Peace from Paris in 1971. I received it as a Christmas gift a few years ago actually. I can't wait to blast this record on my Bose system. James and his crew (featuring Maceo Parker and Bootsy Collins) as tight as ever. The band is blazin hot. I would also recommend The JB's double CD anthology "Funky Good Time" which is a collection songs from James Brown and his best band which was the late 60s-early 70s period that featured Maceo, Bootsy & Catfish Collins, Fred Wesley, etc. You will likely hear some familiar tunes that were later sampled in hip hop tracks.

Played this randomly on spotify today and instantly recognized the former as the sample for the latter.

Re: Funk Music - Suggestions?

I had to make some more FUNK posts in this thread. This is the music I grew up on listening to along with blues, soul, and R&B during roadtrips Down South with my dad and grannie.

^Love that the Ohio Players mixed some jazz flavor in the record.
