Re: Ten Changes TNA should make
This is an old post but I feel it needs repeating. There's no stupid, gimmicky ideas in this post so just hear me out:
I would give the show a more realistic feel by presenting the backstage stuff like a reality show, which is very popular among mainstream fans, and presenting the in-ring stuff more like a sport, which hopefully will make fans take it more serious. And when I say reality show, I don't mean like the Hills or Keeping Up with the Kardashians. I'm talking more like Ultimate Fighter or something. But don't get me wrong, I wouldn't have everything be super serious. It is wrestling after all so the comedy stuff and ridiculousness would still have their place in the show.
The older guys would be used strictly to put over the younger guys. Case closed. Hogan would still be GM but instead of segments between him and his daughter all the God damn time, he would be interacting with and subsequently putting over the younger guys. Sting would be a mainstream attraction only wrestling a few times a year. Angle would be mixing it up with guys looking to take that next step and I would occasionally have him challenge for the title as he's still a credible challenger.
Of course better marketing.
DEFINITELY a second 1 hour show on a night where no other wrestling show comes on and on a night where people are not out. I'm thinking Tuesday or Sunday nights. If Sundays, it would come on at 7 so on the night of ppvs, it can be live from the arena the ppv is at and even lead into the ppv. Those shows can even be used as hype shows for the ppvs with 1 or 2 matches sprinkle in. Basically like Sunday Night Heat used to be. This second show would also be used to showcase whoever did not appear on Impact the same week as a way for everyone to get tv time without throwing to much at the fans.
6 ppvs a year, 1 every two months and everything that happens in between will build to each ppv. And no more waiting until the last Impact before each ppv to announce matches. EVERY match will be announced by the second to last Impact the latest.
Titles and accomplishments would be treated as bigger deals. Title reigns would be longer, titles would be defended more often, title matches will almost always be hyped, and title changes would be treated as bigger deals. I would also scrap the KO tag titles.
More tag teams. REAL tag teams too.
No more weight limits and 3 ways in the X Division. It would go back to be the high risk, high flying division that put TNA on the map. No more bullshit gimmick stips and rules for the division. If it's not broke, don't fix it and it wasn't broke for the first 8 years.
Less promos, more in-ring action. I don't mean 25% promos and 75% wrestling but more like 50/50. There would be a nice medium between the two because promos are after all, very important in wrestling. We just don't need it taking time away from what should be the main focus, the wrestling, which would get more time than it does now.
A better introduction of new faces and returning faces. I'm talking weeks of video packages. That's unless they're a surprised return or debut. I would also build each new wrestler up before catapulting them into big angles/feuds so when the time comes, the fans actually care about them.
No more of guys disappearing for months for no reason. With the exception of a few people, TNA seems like a revolving door of talent. One week a guy is being made to look like a big deal, then he's off tv for weeks. I would just have a more stable roster overall. No need to throw to many faces at the fans at once. That's one of the reason's I feel anyone not named Hogan, Sting , Angle, or Hardy isn't a true star.
Better video packages, a better presentation, and better overall production values in general. This includes entrance videos and entrance music. No more of the same clip being played over and over and being passed off as an entrance video. These are not gifs we're talking about. Is it so hard to show clips of the wrestlers in action in their entrance videos? As far as the music goes, the themes need to be more recongnizable and fitting to each wrestler.
A smoother transition between each segment. Just a better formatted show as a whole. I would try to format the show so that commercials are not cutting into crucial moments and matches as much.
Less face/heel turns.
More of an emphasis on finishers. Finishers in TNA are treated as afterthoughts and are often being kicked out of while rollups are treated like death.
No more babbling on about irrelevant stuff from commentary. Commentary should always be focused on whats happening in front of them and only mention other things when it ties into what's happening at the moment. The fans don't need to be confused with what commentary is talking about. I'm looking at you Taz. Also commentary could do a better job at putting everything over. Todd Kennely is good at this but is being canceled out by Taz and Tenay.
I would get rid of the ramp connecting to the ring, a bigger ring, and more space between the ring and barricades.
More cross promoting between TNA and Spikes other shows.
Give the KOs more tv time. This is not a joke. Everyone knows the KOs = ratings.
Alot of my ideas are SIMPLE things that I think would make TNA alot better for not just the hardcore fans but casual/mainstream fans too.
Not removing until:
I get laid.
