how u guys see aj coming back? as a heel? still a face? who will he fued with?
i see him coming back as a face, but with a new direction. comes back as a rebel/anti-hero character, no longer mr. tna, the guy standing up for dixie carter, he just wants the world title back where it belongs.
I'd have it as a reluctant, distrustful AJ eventually gaining his redemption by crushing the Aces and Eights and recapturing the world title. For it to work, AJ needs to be off TV for months while Ace's and Eights tear through virtually every top face.
To follow through on the angle, you could even leak stories of AJ pursuing another career. He funds an MMA company, so you could easily construct a well-weaved lie.
AJ Styles to come back in Sting 97' type manner. Not the facepaint and everything, just a darker AJ Styles, never speaks, have him in between TNA and Aces & 8's without choosing a side, attacking members of both sides.
They should reveal AJ Styles as the leader of the Aces and Eights at Lockdown and have him destroy Angle, Sting and Joe all by himself, that should make a statement.
A darker AJ Styles, with a darker outfit and look, get someone to talk for him, like Flair did.
I really hope this time he returns with something new and different. Hopefully a new look and a legit heel. Now be called the Phenom for short.Which feels more heel ish.
If he does it right it could be huge. He has gotten beyond boring.
Unfortunately AJ doesn't have the demeanor or mic skills to make a heel run work. He's had many attempts, none of which were successful. Not even with the arrogant Ric Flair as his mouthpiece, he just can't pull "heel" off very well.
Sure he could pull a cheap betrayal and gain an instant surge of heat from the crowd, but he has never been able to do anything past that.
I don't mind him being more 'dark', but I agree with whomever compared him to Sting. If he comes back to rally the forces of TNA against A&E I think it could work. But TNA needs to be smart, instead of just giving away matches and having clusterf*** mob battles, they need to do it like Sting. Sting and Hogan built their match over the course of an ENTIRE YEAR, with no contact. ECW did the same, I think it was Tazz and Sabu?
TNA needs to build a huge momentum THEN cash it in, not blow it all in one night's worth of iMPACT!. These things take time.
Personally I hope they reintroduce him as either a darker character
(same as so many others here) or maybe,
give him a kind of an Eddie inspired character,
a loveable cheat.
I'm not too sure wether it would work, but i think
AJ - being so popular with the fans - would
probably stand a better chance of getting that
kind of a gimmick over, without getting 'you stole
Eddies gimmick'-heat.
As for the booking/feud side of things, I would
like to see him spending a year or so dominating
the x-division. AJ feuding over the X-title with the
rest of the division, and maybe a couple of
fresh guys would kickstart the X-division, and,
if 'option c' still exists in the new PPV structure
that could be his way to get a title shot
at BFG - hopefully in that AJ v AA dream match.
Longish break then he'll come back, still as a face but someone who has something to prove and is utterly focused on getting the title back and proving himself.
This may mean he'll be a darker face than we are used to (maybe refusing to run in and help other faces if they're in trouble, refusing pleas from Dixie or whoever to help out with whatever turmoil is going on at the time). But essentially he won't be a heel and he'll still be a good guy. He'll just be utterly focused on achieving his goal and be a "man on a mission" - too intent on proving himself to bother with whatever else is going on around him.
He'll also be booked strong with winning streak to show his fight back from his "Year of Hell."
Hopefully, by the time he gets to contender level, Aries will be champ again and we can see the much-anticipated feud between a strongly booked, refreshed AJ and good ol' A Double.
While the above is going on, Roode and Aries squabble with whoever is Champ at the time over who becomes Champ and Daniels flukes getting the belt via Option C (suits his devious character plus I want Daniels to get the belt, just once). Cue Daniels / Aries / Roode squabbling for a couple of months (and we get solid gold Daniels promos) while AJ tears up the ranks as a rapidly rising threat. Then (and yes - I know this means another Daniels / AJ fight but it has to be the last one!), AJ swipes the title off Daniels leading to a face Champ run with Roode, Aries, Bully (name heel of choice) coming to get it thereafter.
I know a lot of people will moan about another AJ/Daniels match, but if AJ rises from seemingly nowhere and the writing is done so that AJ is so focused he's not even bothered that it's Daniels, he just wants the belt, whoever has it, it would work.
fuck dont be a heel AJ. You'll never be booed and you can't pull it off anyway. Same as Sting and Angle (in the last couple years), be a forever babyface
Come back refreshed and go back to what first gave you success, the X DIVISION. imo anyway, probably is turning heel so yaaay at that.
AJ as a heel (again) will be the final destruction of his career (after already beeing in the midcard for the last two years bar a few filler ME feuds), unless he can recover a few years from now on, and even then it might be too late. TNA should focus on making Styles a cornerstone of the company, basically the reliable face that everybody wants to cheer. Turning him will destroy that possibility. Sure, he can handle the mic better as a heel imo, but he's simply not a heel by nature and he should rather be booked as a hero type of character that will always fight the bad guys, esentially the Randy Couture of TNA.
