Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I haven't seen Hard Justice 05 since it originally aired. Brings me back though thinking about it, and I agree they had a really strong tag division back then. Also agree on Shocker, oddly shaped, I personally didn't like the guy, but he was capable of putting on decent matches, as showed by his series with Shelley.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Well, Shocker's style never really meshed with the typical "TNA style" at the time. As mentioned though, his series with Shelley was good.

Jeff Jarrett vs AJ Styles ****. A tremendous main event. IMO, Jeff Jarretts year long title reign is the best Ive ever seen in TNA.
Yuck to the max. He should have lost it to Monty at Final Resolution 05.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

I just finished watching the first two discs of the TNA Cross the Line - Vol. 3 set, Turning Point '09 and Final Resolution '09. I thought everyone might enjoy some lengthy thoughts:

TNA Turning Point 2009

X Division Championship: Amazing Red vs. Homicide
These two are so evenly matched and yet havve such different styles. It's really cool to see Homicide play the bully, especially since he's pretty small himself, but it works. Red really is amazing, and like Evan Bourne, plays the part convincingly. I thought this was a great mesh of styles, and not a typical spotfest, and a more well-rounded x division match than we're used to.

All Knockouts Titles on the Line: ODB, Taylor Wilde, & Sarita vs. The Beautiful People
Decent knockouts match. Solid action, nothing spectacular, nothing terrible, but at least Lacey Von Botch doesn't ruin it.

Three-Way for the TNA World Tag Team Championship: The British Invasion vs. The Motor City MachineGuns vs. Beer Money
I seem to remember hearing that the 4-way ladder match at Bound for Glory a month prior would be the last time that Beer Money, British Invasion, Team 3D, and the MEM would fight, so I was a little confused when a month later that BI and BM were in the ring together again.

Another solid match, not as great as you would think, but still quite good.

Tara vs. Awesome Kong
Something of a dream match in the knockouts division; two of the most unstoppable women in TNA (outside of ODB), but both of these ladies can wrestle. It's not as great as you would think, especially given that it could have used more time, but they make the most of it. The finish is big and makes Tara look great, I just still think they could have done more.

Rhino & Team 3D vs. Matt Morgan, Hernandez, & The Pope
Fun six-man tag. This was another "new guys vs. old guys" feud, but it worked because the old guys were rallying together, and the new guys had a teammate they weren't sure if they could trust. Rhino and Team 3D make a great stable, The Pope looks like a face pretty quickly, and the action is very swift. Entertaining match.

Bobby Lashley vs. Scott Steiner
God help me, I liked it. To be fair, I'm a mark for "power guy vs. power guy" matches, and Steiner/Lashley match up perfectly. It was also great to see Steiner in singles action again. This match definitely reminded me of Steiner/Goldberg, though obviously not as good, but it's a great showing from Steiner, and the feud, though tried, still worked well. It played with Steiner's reputation as a ladies man with Lashley's hot wife. The nodq stipulation was smart, because a regular 1-on-1 could have stunk up the joint. They brawled all over the place and the crowd was into it. My only complaint is that, like a lot of TNA main event matches, it ended out of nowhere, and the wrong guy won.

Kurt Angle vs. Desmond Wolfe
The first time I saw this match, I wasn't really paying much attention and didn't think much of it. I just assumed everyone was going crazy because it was Angle and Nigel McGunniness. But watching it really closely for the second time, I could really appreciate it. These two did it all, they wrestled, they traded counters, power-moves, everything. The psychology was spot-on, and I could really appreciate the intelligence of the match, how Wolfe kept gunning for Angle's shoulder in the most innovative ways. This one definitely had me on the egde of my seat.

TNA World Heavyweight Championship: AJ Styles vs. Samoa Joe vs. Daniels
I remember loving this match the first time I saw it. It wasn't as intense as the first 3-way from Unbreakable, but it was still very entertaining. One of the problems is that it just wasn't as rish as the match before it, and another problem is that aside from the match being for the WHC (instead of the x division title), not much had changed since then. Sure, AJ was now the world champ, and Joe had since won the world title, but he also languished for most of 2009. In 2009, Joe was all over the place; first with the nation of violence, then turning heel, then back to the x division, and losing a feud with Bobby Lashley. I guess what it comes down to is that this match was made as nothing more than an amazing exhibition. In 2005, there was a real feud between these three, and it could have gone either way. But in 2009, the feud kind of came out of nowhere, and it was plainly obvious that Styles would be retaining.

That said, these three are the MVPs of TNA. They're exchanges were so innovative and exciting; this match just breezed by. It was non-stop (heh), and they did their best with the story. Joe played the power game well, Daniels tried to prove something, and AJ was caught in the middle. Was it compelling? Not really. But it was still a great match.

Review of Final Resolution later.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

Can anyone help me out in trying to find No Surrender 2005 on DVD? Anyone know where they're selling it for a decent price? It's on eBay for 20 so I'll most probably get it there unless it's cheaper elsewhere. It's the last one of my collection (2004-Jan07) that I need.

Kazarian vs Daniels vs Brian Kendrick vs Amazing Red (Ladder Match for X title shot) - Destination X

Great and innovative ladder match! It's unfair that this match is overshadowed by, IMO, inferior Ultimate X between MCMG and Gen Me.

This was an amazing match from start 'til finish. Everyone did and sold well, there weren't unnecessary spots, and almost everything was centered around trying to climb the ladder and take the title shot contract. It emphasized the importance of being no. 1 contender. Kendrick was the star, as he was frantic in trying to climb the ladder ASAP and take the shot. It's everything ladder match should be about. ****

Team 3D vs. Beer Money Inc.-Lockdown 2009 (Philadelphia Street Fight)

Was in a mood for watching some Team 3D after getting through their shoot (which is great btw). So I thought I may as well go ahead and re-watch this match since I hadn't seen it in a few months.

I'd find it hard to describe just how fun I found this match. I particularly enjoyed the Bubba Bomb from the top rope, I think it's the first time I've seen that. As well, the crowd were amazing. That must have been the loudest "Get the Tables" I'd heard in a long time. I couldn't have guessed who was going to win had I have been watching it live.

3D get in most of the offence early on with some members of the crowd trying to get some cheap shots in on Beer Money too but things change once Beer Money plant Devon through a table on the floor, however Storm ends up costing his team the match after accidentally smashing the cage into Roodes face which sets up the 3D through a table. Ultimately Team 3D end up winning the TNA Titles to go along with their IWGP Titles and claim "World Tag-Team Domination" in their old stomping grounds.

****-Loved every second of it.

Kurt Angle vs. "The Pope" D'angelo Dinero-iMPACT 26/11/09

So after seeing that Pope vs. Angle was announced for Victory Road 2010, I figured I should get a taste of what the two guys can do together. To my knowledge this is the only match they've had together so far in their TNA careers, and of all nights it's on the Thanksgiving Tournament show. This particular show provided alot of matches we wouldn't normally see like Suicide/Wolfe or Roode/Homicide and Lashley/Abyss.

So back to the match, Pope came out right after the commercial and got a pretty good pop from the crowd but he gets a much louder reaction today. Angle got a great pop, but he gets that every week so it's nothing strange. The match started fast right from the start, Pope tried to out-wrestle Angle but it doesn't do him much good since Angle had a counter every time. Pope ended up ditching the wrestling and reverted to an explosive style he's become known for.

Angle needed to slow down Pope and he did this with a series of suplex's and submissions. Pope went back to trying to out-wrestle Angle by hitting a German Suplex on him but yet again, Angle had the counter. Pope then yet again reverts back to his usual style which works better for him in the short term. However Angle spotted the DDE and countered it into an Ankle Lock. Dinero did escape but it only led to an Angle Slam, granting Angle the win.

Really good for about 6-7 mins. I like how Pope was able to switch styles in the middle of the match from a more traditional style to a fast explosive style. Angle stuck to what he knew and it payed off in the end. From this short match, I see potential for an excellent match at Victory Road. Pope showed he can hang with Angle and that it shouldn't be a total squash at the PPV. Hopefully, Pope's back to his best after being out for 3 months with injury problems.

Dumb question, but do they sell dvds at their live events? I'm going to the one in Woodstock September 4th and I figure I'll get some stuff there if they do.

Re: Official TNA DVD Help/Discussion/Review Thread

They do but I'm not sure if they have their full selection of DVDs, they didn't last time I went to a TNA show. But the experience from buying something from Don West should more than make up for any DVDs they don't have.

Lockdown 2010

RVD vs. James Storm - ***

X Division Xscape Match
Homicide vs. Chris Sabin vs. Alex Shelley vs. Brian Kendrick - **

Kevin Nash vs. Eric Young - *

Velvet Sky & Madison Rayne vs. Tara & Angelina Love - 1/2*

X Divison Title Match
Kazarian vs. Homicide vs. Shannon Moore - ***1/4

St. Louis Street Fight
Team 3D vs. Scott Hall & Kevin Nash - **3/4

Kurt Angle vs. Mr. Anderson - ****1/2 (pretty sure this will end up as TNA's match of the year)

TNA World Title Match
AJ Styles(c) vs. "The Pope" D'Angelo Dinero - ***1/2

Lethal Lockdown - Team Hogan vs. Team Flair
Abyss, RVD, Jeff Hardy, & Jeff Jarrett vs. Sting, Beer Money Inc, & Desmond Wolfe - *** (somewhat fun but overbooked. These types of matches are never really all that great to be honest)

Overall: 7.5/10

Honestly this has been my favorite PPV from the entire year, but also this year's ppvs have been incredibly weak all around. Loved watching it live and would certainly recommend picking up the dvd. A few throw away matches, but the best ppv from the Hogan era thus far.
