Look at what they got to work with here. A match they are hyping for their first ppv in how many years that wasn't Bound for glory. Scott Steiner can walk a straight line that's about it. It takes him 5 minutes to make a turn. Josh blew his knee out training 15 years ago? Did he even have another match after that final Tough Enough Match before the voting? JB who is what in his 40s who starts training for a match for a pay per view so how much training can he really have? Then the guy that has to be the Ric Flair of the match, the guy that has to carry the ball and make everyone look good Joseph Park? If he was Abyss maybe but he's Joseph Park. We all know there is a HUGE difference between the 2 in the ring? This match is going to have to be ridiculously short to not kill the show but no matter how short it will still be a train wreck. This match screams IMPACT. Maybe a IMPACT special but belongs no where near a ppv.

Slammiversary is a yearly PPV.

It is called entertainment. This is for the casuals and for some laughs.
But if it's for the casuals then don't put it on a PPV. I don't think casuals buy a TNA PPV (especially not to see this "match"), but they would probably tune in for free to see it.

Casuals will not buy the PPV just for this match but it could be one of the reasons. Sometimes it is hard to tell what will draw them but to me a good booking job is trying a little bit of different things to draw a wider range of viewers. I mean Big Show in a sumo match at WM did not appeal to most of us regular fans but it might have been interesting to more casual fans.

I do not know why people enjoy My Sweet 16 or Teen Moms but they are popular among some people. To be fair, I am waiting to see how it goes down before judging completely. I mean it could end up being something like The Final War and just be a hoot.

I mean, I get the complaints. Park/JB vs Steiner/Matthews is going to be a shitfest of a match.

Adding celebrities or athletes to wrestling matches will always be a pet peeve of mine. I do think the match could end up being decent if Williams' involvement is held to a minimum.

Outside of that, the card looks pretty good:

Lashley/El Patron, EC3/Storm, FMM and Dutt/Ki should be decent. Could go either way with Rosemary/Sienna.

Interested to see who LAX ends up facing.

Yea I no fan of the athlete/celebrity but it has its place. The casual fan or someone that had not watched in long time probably would not be overly excited about the good matches on the card. However they might have their interest piqued by Steiner coming back or Williams. In Williams case it gets some main stream coverage. Plus at the end of the day I think you need some more laid back matches between great matches to let fans catch their breath. Like having a multi course meal with something small between courses to clean your palate.

But I believe Akebono was a really big deal in Japan. I think it just took too much on air time for a commentator feud, and it became a complete joke with the addition of Joseph Park (and Steiner, who I really like!). Don't we already have a comedy feud with Swoggle and Spud?

Maybe it's just me, and I really dislike this feud.

It did take up a lot of air time and for awhile overshadowed the actual commentary of the match no doubt. I am waiting to see how both matches play out and more so how they fit in the line up. Like I said before, after an awesome match or two you need something more laid back to catch your breath and get ready for the next awesome match. Fact is this card has some laid back matches but also some that if booked right can be real good. I see the X title match, KO title match and World title match if done right could be among the best matches of the year. In wrestling not just Impact. FMM might also deliver the goods.
