WWE "have no interest" in Broken Hardys: Ed Nordholm

Anthem Wrestling Exhibitions president Ed Nordholm speaks with The LAW's John Pollock about the status of Impact Wrestling's relationship with Matt & Jeff Hardy. Nordholm reveals his stance on Impact's ownership of the Broken Matt Hardy/Brother Nero characters, his interactions with the WWE over the trademarks and his current relationship with Ring of Honor following the Hardys' involvement in their 15th Anniversary pay-per-view.

The Owlman cometh...

Says working with Dixie was easy once she realized it was time to make a move. Before I don't think she realized people wanted her out. Once longtime employees spoke up, it was time.

Met Jarrett last December. Knew he needed a wrestling guy to help Anthem. Jarrett and his family have over 30 years of promoting and has experienced success and failure. Once you experience failure you become smarter.

Will walk before run when it comes to live events to be responsible economically. Will have first live show by August. Hoping to have more by fall. Thinks Impact's absence will help them draw good crowds, as well as co-branding with AAA. Live events is an important part of their vision. Wrestlers love rowdy crowds. We want them.

On the Broken gimmick: "I don't believe I have ownership of it, I KNOW I have ownership of it." Doesn't think the Hardys can dispute that contractually. Says it's not about who created it, but who invested in it and put it on TV. Really doesn't care about Matt Hardy and Reby ranting on Twitter. However they are keeping tabs on it, predicts she'll go off after this interview. Says Matt Hardy's contract was a standard contract.

Is open to speaking to the Hardys, open to an arrangement with the Hardys where they can use it, but it has to make sense for Anthem/Impact. If it doesn't they know where the door is.
Says he's communicated with WWE — they have no interest in the Broken gimmick. Puts over their legal department.

Young Bucks were supposed to come to the March taping (as part of Hardy deal) obviously that didn't happen.

Says they had everything worked out with ROH on the Hardys, but they kept trying to promote them as the Broken Hardys and they had to take action as they own the IP.

Says ROH relationship is fine, no ill will there. Has discussions with them from time to time. Hopes for other crossover opportunities. We apologize for the trouble but we had to do what we had to do. ROH is staying on Fight Network in Canada.

Not sure about the Hardys lawyering up as recently Crazy Hardy aka Reby Tweeted about trying to work out a deal without getting lawyers involved and how it would cost both if this went to court. Not granted paying lawyers cuts into ones money but it seems to me she is reconsidering going to court as she realizes they do not have the strong case as she thought.

Other bits from Nordholm interview. Slammiversary, GFW, WOS, 3rd PPV

Info on Slammiversary from his LAW interview.

- Nordholm said that whatever is left of GFW is being merged into the company. It will not be renamed GFW. The GFW belts will be merged with the Impact ones. Just a fun idea to introduce the new belts. Slammiversary will be the official funeral of TNA and GFW he says. Maybe celebrities there and some faces you haven't seen in years and of course some young talent looking for an opportunity.

- Live touring, they are walking before they run. Says from whats been explained to him the company previously had a poor promotional and marketing strategy. Collaborating with independents and running small venues is the idea.

- Says the new belts will be finished soon, 2 of the belts are ready to go. They usually take 4 or 5 weeks to make plus you add the two weeks to submit designs to the maker.

- Will be a 3rd PPV in 2018. One Night Onlys will be made more interesting.

- Nordholm is then asked about WOS, that is very close to being sorted out. Says again it has to be good for us as well as ITV. Tapings may occur in the fall.

Yeah i figured the new belts would debut at Slammy. It kinda makes sense to make the final Impact Wrestling transition away from TNA at the slammy ppv because of what the event is about. Guess the ppv will be full of a lot of stuff happening besides just matches. Should be an interesting night.

I would imagine every belt will have a 6 sided shape themed to them. Which in my opinion will look very sharp .We will see some interesting transition video packages that night too.

I hope its more of a tribute to TNA and to move on.Because TNA is still JJ and not Dixie as he started it.

I mean realisticly people how long is the ppv model going to last. I agree they need to continue with big events like this with continued names. But in the future that model will have and most likely be over a streaming service.

Id like them to get back to building and making events feel special.

Not in order

Victory road - PPV with a tournament to decide numb 1 contender to face world champion at BFG

IMO all belts look ugly these days with the exception of current TNA WH and IWGP IC.

I'd prefer them to just change the logos on all belts and that's it. Altough Impact Grand will lose it's uniqueness. Their tag and KOs belts look fina already and x-div is gimmicky, but it's not bad, since it is a gimmicky title.

I'm more interested in what they're going to do with NEX GEN title. I mean I can get behind the storyline with Cody appearing with the belt some time in the future, but we do know why he wont be at slammy now. Cause he's signed with NJPW and not cause IW chose not to merge his belt yet.

Whats making all of you think the belts will be bad ? I mean the logo is 6 sides so its fair to say i think the theme of the belts shape will be that.I feel that will look very sharp and professional on belts. I mean look at the grand championship thats already in that shape,Looks very sharp.

I also feel we will get a Impact championship that will be perfect as a defenders belt. Think the main belt will be called Impact wrestling Global championship. Makes sense as this company is now going to try and form partners all over the world and make this brand more global and GFW style from JJ. So the Global Championship under the IW umbrella name can try its best to form into the most prestige belt that is legit faught all over the world with different promotions. unlike wwe belt.Thats how you gain value in a belt and grow

I also have a bad feeling all the belts will look bad or will be too big/small.

Hopefully I am wrong in thinking this. I can imagine some sort of blue/green being used with the metal designs, which MAY work. But again it depends on the main design and strap colours of course.

I'm also intrigued how they are going to solve the whole NEX*GEN Title situation since Cody has the belt, and him & Brandi are practically done with IW.

For what it's worth Cody mentioned during a recent interview he's still considering his free agency so I assume he can work a PPA thing, at the very least a Slammiversary booking. However since they're taping the build up in India I assume if it does happen the challenge would be made via video package and backstage segments.
