I think this simple piece by Tenacious.C. will help all new artists here big time, especially The Fourth Wall who's a 'grungy guy.

Here you go.

Hey guys, I posted this in tech and was forwarded onto here. Anyone think they could help?

Hi there, I'm a Video Editor looking to his expand his skills to Photoshop and After Effects.

All I'm looking for is five good techniques to learn for each software, that I can then go and research/watch tutorials for myself. I don't want a toddlers guide from step one, just five effects that someone would find themselves using a lot. I know a lot of softwares use crazy outlandish effects but many are so rare they never get used, I'm just looking for the MOST common.

So for example:

Photoshop
1) Colourisation
2) Photoshopping a head onto a body
3) Text design
4) etc
5) etc

So basically what are five strong beginner technique's I can go look up myself for each of the two softwares, in your professional opinion?

Thanks!

I'm trying to create a Pearl Jam signature, and so far I've created this for it.

I was wondering if there's anyway of making that work, or if I should just scrap it and restart. The problem is that now I only have it saved as 1 flattened image. I wouldn't mind scrapping it, because I just started creating it.

Anyone ever come across this sort of problem?

As I'm working on my SummerSlam poster, I save each and every step in PSD so as to continue whenever I want to but all of a sudden the file seems to have crashed. I don't know what to do right now. I'm thinking of downloading GIMP and try opening it in there whether it will work. The current size of the file is 52MB if that helps

Just got a question and didn't think it warranted a new thread.

I'm not big into GFX, but would like to learn how to alter and manipulate images in pictures, and do stuff like take parts of one picture, crop them and put them in another. I've got no software other than what came with Windows, and feel free to consider me a photoshop ignoramus.

This is not something I would spend a lot of time on, maybe tinker with every once in a while unless I get into it. Would anyone have any suggestions as to software, or downloadable programs I could teach myself to use for doing this?

Download GIMP which is pretty much just a free Photoshop that is a little bit more complicated to get used to.

Thanks. I tried to check it out before, but when I went to download it my security quarantined it. I guess I found a bad link earlier. I will give that a try.

Yeah. Get GIMP for a start. Simpler than Photoshop and it's free. Go around the net to find some basics on how to use it or PM the GIMP guy we have on here, CHAMP, to put you through.
