Kassius Ohno should have been in the Shield instead of Ambrose

OK so hear me out here. I know the idea of Ohno in the Shield has been discussed at length, but usually with regards to replacing Reigns with him. I don't think that would have been good - Reigns is cool and the group needed a big, WWE-style look guy - but the more I think about Ohno in the Shield, the more I think it would have been great.

And it dovetails with something else I had been thinking and wanted to discuss. They do not give Dean Ambrose nearly enough promo time or characterization. Yeah he gets some time here and there, and they always say he's the "eccentric" one and everything. But he never really gets to do or say anything that really shows off his unique character and personality. Which is of course the best thing about him as a performer.

For what his role in the Shield demands, I think Ohno would have been a better fit - he's a better wrestler, and his promo skills are good enough to cut the standard Shield type promo. Plus if we wore all that paramilitary gear people wouldn't freak out about his love handles.

Ambrose, meanwhile, if he were allowed to do his full on crazy man schtick, would be more compelling. The Shield role limits him in a way that is kind of frustrating.

Thoughts?

Didn't he get really out of shape? Anyways. Ambrose is fine right where he is.

Naw I like Ambrose in the role cause his mannerisms and expressions set him apart as a wildcard and like Its Always Sunny says every group needs a wildcard

Not the Paul Heyman guy at least? I don't think Ambrose to far off from his original character, especially in the early days of The Shield.

Interesting. When I read the title I thought I would disagree with you wholeheartedly, but after I finished reading your explanation I can't help but agree with you. The only issue I have with this is that I think Ambrose has really elevated Rollins and Reigns on the mic tremendously and I'm not sure Ohno would have been able to do that.

Re: Kassius Ohno should have been in the Shield instead of Ambrose

I kind of agree. But that may be because I was a Ohno mark when he was still Chris Hero and the fact that, physique aside, I always wanted him on the main roster.

But at the same time, going by how he's done so far, I think Ambrose is perfect in this role. It's just the little things, such as his mannerisms, that make me think very highly of what WWE has done with him, despite all the annoying and delusional shit Ambrose marks said before he even made it to the main roster.

So based on that, I think Ohno would have been better suited for another role on the main roster. I originally hoped for a KOW reunion or at the very least (during Punk's heel run), an alliance with him, Cesaro, Punk and Bryan.

Re: Kassius Ohno should have been in the Shield instead of Ambrose

The main issue (besides Ambrose being fucking awesome in this role) is mic work. Rollins is good (better than most expected), but still not a guy that's going to be able to carry a faction like this, Reigns has improved immensely, but at this point he's average at best, and Ohno's probably on Rollins' level. A lot of the reason the Shield took off is those awesome promo's and backstage terrorist-y cam videos. They were and are top quality work, all carried by Ambrose. A group like this needs a charismatic leader to spread the propaganda, and they NEED Ambrose for that reason. The group is no where near as good without Rollins or Reigns. The group doesn't last without Ambrose.

They picked the perfect three guys for the group. They all bring something different and all compliment each other beautifully. The cover every area of the talent spectrum in wrestling, and I don't care if you picked the three most talented wrestlers on the roster, the Shield is not as successful with any other combination of people that isn't Ambrose, Rollins, and Reigns. They bring so many intangibles as a unit that can't be duplicated. That's why I'm so against another member. It would throw off the entire synergy of a group. You hit a home run choosing these three, why fix what isn't broke?

Ambrose is fine, he deserved to be called up and is doing great things.

Ohno marks

Just no. The guy will be lucky to even make it to the main roster, let alone be put into what will go down as possibly the GOAT stable. Ohno can't even get TV time on NXT FFS.

GOAT stable? You've got to be kidding. There is no way The Shield are anywhere near GOAT stable. The NWO Wolf Pack was better than them. L.W.O was a better stable. DX, The Ministry, and hell even the Wyatt Family are better. The Shield is awful, and has no direction. This corporation angle finally gave this group some substance. Even then, what have The Shield really become? What is the agenda? I have always felt that Reigns, Ambrose, and Rollins would have been better on their own. The three men just don't come off as the right trio.

The Shield should have been Ryback, Connor O'Brien, and Langston with Heyman as the mouthpiece. Ryback should have debuted as he did. The only difference would be his attire. Ryback would be in the typical Shield S.W.A.T attire. He wouldn't speak for weeks, and then announces his allegiance to this "Shield" thing that for the time being fans would have not a clue to what that was. Have Ryback rip through the roster. Eventually turn him heel with the other two joining him later to help him win a title like the WHC. Heyman reveals that he has brought The Shield to the WWE because it needs protection from boring "entertainers" like John Cena, Brodus Clay, or R-Truth.

Heyman claims that The Shield will revolutionize the industry, and take the business to new heights. This version of The Shield would have owned, and those three men would have been more intimidating. Langston, Ryback, and Connor O'Brian are three people who like they should be wearing S.W.A.T gear. The current three just don't fit this role at all. Ryback, Connor, and Langston with Heyman as the mouthpiece would have been my pick. These three men need some help on the mic, and Paul was the guy.
