Hey guys, I saw the thread about people being made fun of for being wrestling fans, is anyone proud to be a wrestling fan? I always wear my wrestling shirts out in public. a few people I know made fun of it called it "gay" but theyre fucking dubstep fans lol. im a huge Cena fan and that's kinda looked down upon on places like these in the IWC however I am both a huge wrestling and cena fan and wore my Cena shirt to school on Tuesday and my CM Punk shirt on Thursday. So my question is... Are you proud or ashamed to be a wrestling fan?

nothing to be ashamed of. Pro wrestling is cool in my book, a lot more fun and interesting than most interests.

I've never hid that i'm a fan, i don't wear pro wrestling shirts because i just generally don't like them.
I'll always stick up for wrestling if it comes up as fake or whatever and try explain things, but most people don't wanna listen, so i'm not inclined to try win people over.

I once saw a middle-aged dude on the bus wearing a Cena hat (that just said John Cena) that was obviously made, not bought. He -- or someone close to him -- made that hat for him to wear. In public. So just saying I like wrestling (or anything I like, in general) isn't the end of the world. I believe the GOAT Dave Grohl said it best, to be honest:

I don’t believe in guilty pleasures. If you fucking like something, like it. That’s what’s wrong with our generation: that residual punk rock guilt, like, “You’re not supposed to like that. That’s not fucking cool.” Don’t fucking think it’s not cool to like Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” It is cool to like Britney Spears’ “Toxic”! Why the fuck not? Fuck you! That’s who I am, goddamn it! That whole guilty pleasure thing is full of fucking shit.
Be proud -- or, just don't be afraid -- to like what you like.

Wrestling and basketball are pretty much the only sport-type things that I watch. That being said, it's surprisingly tough finding people who like either one of them. As for wresting shirts, I wear them pretty regularly. The only time I've ever been "called out" on wearing a wrestling shirt was at Comic-Con (they were compliments, of course).

Since MITB, my friends and I have been getting together to watch PPVs. They may not be hardcore fans or even know any other promotions outside of TNA and WWE, but I just consider myself lucky to know other people in real life who actually enjoy watching it.

there isn't that much to be proud about since wrestling for the most part doesn't take itself seriously

Isn't that the beauty of it though... not to take life to seriously. If it entertains you then great. Which for me it does quite a bit. It has been getting a lot better these past few months.

Even though I live in Asia, I have ordered 2 shirts from the US (both the postage and import taxes were more than twice the cost of the shirt itself!), and you know what, I'm happy to wear them out. Most people don't know what they are (I have Wade Barrett and CM Punk shirts), and one guy who came over from Chicago certainly knew the Punk one and I got a pat on the back (he was not even a wrestling fan).

I wear my wrestling apparel all the time, everyone either has no idea what the fuck I'm wearing, or they are wrestling fans themselves, and appreciate it.

People who make fun of a t-shirt someone is wearing are usually dumbass douchebags that nobody really likes. The most uncool thing nowadays is to try and act cool. If you're a wrestling fan and if you're sitting around with friends discussing something like indy wrestling or talking about angles done well at a PPV, it's a lot more badass than most of the other shit that kids talk about nowadays. Wrestling used to be one of the most "it" things in the world in the Attitude Era, a lot of things in today's wrestling have attitude-like things about them (Punk, Shield, Corporate angle, etc, etc)

Wrestling has never been cool, the problem most people have isn't Cena, or even PG. Most people's complaints are that it's fake. I have both Punk's BITW shirts and most people don't know they're wrestling shirts. Being a wrestling fan isn't something I actively hide, but I avoid bringing it up in public. Most people will just ask does *insert wrestler from AE or RA era* is still around.

I'd say I'm neither proud or ashamed. Wrestling is just something I like and that's it.

As far as wearing wrestling shirts, not really my thing. I'm a metalhead and I do not have much band merchandise. I've just never been part of the 'dress to impress' group. Sure I support bands but I do it by buying their music. And collecting merchandise is not really a cheap hobby. There would be so many things I'd rather spend my money on than merchandise.

I've been a wrestling fan since I was 5 *I'm 43 now*, and I have to say I'm damn proud of it. Even my MOM would ridicule me for liking it, saying I was only in it because of the sex aspect of it, when it wasn't true.

I like the matches, the storylines, and yes, there's a few of the guys that I find attractive *like Ricardo*, but all it is, is a good way to chill after a busy day.

You told your MOM that? Dude I can't stop laughing.
