As far as I see it, UFC only got popular when they adapted a pro wrestling style product presentation. They owe part of their boom to Vince.

Wrestling is a soap opera for men. UFC is more like boxing. If you want a rush of combat and violence, UFC is the way to go. If you want a narrative and drama then WWE is the way to go.

ufc wouldn't be jack without the soap opera storylines and the heels vs faces dichotomy, dana white and joe silva (booker/match maker) are long time pro-wrestling fans and work their audience

Conor McGregor came out and said that everything that happens outside the cage to build for a match is a work on the same level as wwe, they are told to build their characters/storylines to sell matches, look at nick diaz and gsp, diaz wanted to "kill" gsp before the fight and then they were all buddy buddy when it finished

mir and lesnar storyline was pure pro wrestling as is the rise of Ronda Rousey

Re: Why do even supposed wrestling fans trash wrestling in comparison to UFC?

UFC has borrowed A LOT from WWE, much like Muhammad Ali borrowed from Gorgeous George. Even though UFC might not admit it, they are pretty much the 'real' version of WWE. Dana saw what Vince did to pro wrestling and tried to emulate that by building storylines in his TV shows like in the boot camp and that would fuel the hype for the PPV's.

Just look at what he is doing recently, he booked a rematch between Silva and Weidman because he knows its going to $ell and there is a great story in the fight. What if someone topples GSP, you bet Dana is going to book a rematch.

He also bought his rivals and has become as powerful as a monopoly. Many of the fighters have certain looks, with tattoo's, nicknames etc. They become brands, much like how WWE brands it's wrestlers.

The BIG question is, what if Vince McMahon entered the world of MMA? How different would things be? What if Shane was running it? I have some certainty that we would have seen MMA being held in MSG a long time ago had the McMahon's entered the industry.

Rollins then pins Reigns for the win, it gets the title off Lesnar without hurting his monster image and give Reigns someone to feud against for the next few months.

This is how I would cash in.
I saw it coming a month before Wrestlemania.

Most UFC fans are about the ages 17-25 who think they're cool by watching UFC. "lol wwe is fake and gay ufc is real cuz it has blood"

The funny thing is though, the UFC fans that I know own Cena shirts.

Re: Why do even supposed wrestling fans trash wrestling in comparison to UFC?

The hate for pro wrestling is and will always be the bad image that the WWE gives it, people turn on raw or smackdown and see midgets dressed as leprechauns, blokes all greased up and acting vein and pretentious, really bad acting, and blatantly obvious "fake fighting" WWE right now isn't really pro wrestling its "entertainment" loosely based around pro wrestling which we don't see a lot of, 90% of the time it isn't entertaining for the average person above the age of 12 unless you love pro wrestling like myself, pro wrestling is an art, and regardless of what anybody says it is indeed a sport, wwe as a whole isn't a sport but yeah you can see where im coming from, there is no respect for pro wrestling because nobody understands the art of it, because of the WWE.

MMA is great, I loved it years ago but I've grown tired of it, whoever said that they took the WWE style and that's what made them big was correct, MMA was a small sport with few followers even 15 years ago, but the sport was always respected for what it is, it wasn't until they adapted an entertainment style that it became "cool" but what I hate is the idea that it is "real fighting" and that it's used to measure the greatest fighters in the world, because there not the greatest fighters in the world, at all, neither are the wwe wrestlers but the perception of the MMA being proving ground for the worlds greatest fighters is silly, it has rules, it has protection, gloves, gumshields, padding, a referee, an entertainment and controlled atmosphere and tko's and point scoring, the guys mostly consist of tough bastards who learn a small amount of martial arts and step into this controlled and rule infested environment, that is not fighting, that is not how things go down out on the street or in actually dojo'd where there are real mixed martial arts experts who train everyday and could kill a man in a split second, so as "fake and staged" as WWE is MMA isn't too far off.

Id say they were almost two completely different things. Ones real life fighting, the other is a performance, an act. It's time to drop this mentality

Re: Why do even supposed wrestling fans trash wrestling in comparison to UFC?

Take away the fact that MMA is a legit combat sport, a lot of what they do outside the octagon is like a combination of boxing & the Attitude era at it's peak - which is quite appealing to people like myself who grew up in that era.

UFC is better then WWE at the moment, but I lol at people who act like WWE is the pinnacle of wrestling. Yeah WWE is pretty watered down & lame a good chunk of the time (still like it, don't get me wrong) - which is why I always tell MMA fans to go watch NJPW. And then they become NJPW fans in an instant.

160 was good, 161 was definitely light but compare that to WWE, you'd be lucky to name 2 or 3 a year which are good.
