What was up with the bullshit The rock benefitted from Stone Cold's absence storyline

I don't want this to turn into a Rock marks vs Austin marks war, but what was the point in the WWF lying in saying The Rock's merchandise sales fell before Austin left and the only reason why he succeeded is because Austin got ran over. Also having the Rock bow down to Austin like a bitch explaining that he was not Rikishi's accomplice.

Now my question is was Vince testing the waters with the Rock's crowd reactions to make the decision if Rock should turn heel or remain babyface?

Also is it true The Rock's merchandise sales were beginning to plummet in 99 right before Austin got "Ran over" and written off of tv or that was a bullshit kayfabe statement?

The whole point was to make Rock look like the culprit, when in reality it was Triple H.

-No doubt Austin and Rock were the top two stars but HHH was a better heel.HHH should have been revealed as the guy who ran over Austin in the first place

-'The Great White Hope' could have been a great storyline. It had a very realistic feel.

The WWE always favored Austin over the Rock, check WM 15 and 17 as well as their individual booking strengths.

This was a Rock/Austin thread from the word go, brother

Same story, sample posters, same argument is all this would end up. Tired.
