Default Champions Should Take Breaks and Be "Celebs"

in any other contact sport even a world champion of a lesser division usually gets the royal treatment like the World Heavyweight Champ would

remember when Triple H was world champ on raw 2002-2005 and how he wouldn't wrestle very often and just spent his airtime in nice suits while kicking back and partying whereas a Face champ who actually manages to dethrone him embodies the phrase "no rest for the weary"

I mean Benoit was in his gear every night, Goldberg had to defend the belt against Triple H more times in two months than I even care to count and Shawn Michaels was still living in his ranch garb

think back to boxing for a moment, when someone wins a major title it was an event for that individual, they took time off and enjoyed the Million dollar spoils before even fathoming another match

i feel the same should apply for when any wrestler wins a belt, i mean they just worked their whole lives to achieve something that would immortalise them, i think for anyone in life who reaches such milestones should get a moment to reflect and relax and worry about staying on top after getting a chance for the change and effect to settle right in

simply put, kayfabe or not, even the face champs should get all the time off in the world and be seen wearing suits and getting out of limos in front of lots of cameras(even if it is all planted). That's what they would do in any other profession

That's the problem in WWE. The WWE forgot that this is also a sport and that they should make it at least a little realistic.

In short, the whc in boxing is the champ because he is leggit the best boxer in the world at that time, he really!!! earned it, no politics or kayfabe. the WWE whc is the champ because vince said ok your going to win that belt tonight......i mean imagine the great khali being a "celeb" i think its a silly idea man no disrespect, but wwe isn't like boxing or ufc in that sense and if our champ is off being a celeb we dont get to see them wrestle or defend the title which makes for bad bad news....look at part time wwe champ rock, people didn't like it.

I agree that way title matches will feel more prestigious. I mean we already saw Barrett vs Miz at Raw and they still put it at WM pre show.

I agree in the sense that the champion should wrestle on every show - most of the time in doing so, they'll have to make another worker look bad in trying to make the champ look 'strong'. But they should be appearing on every show.

I would hate to see cheesy, worked red carpets and paparazzi segments - that would be horrific. It's basically what happened with The Rock - wouldn't appear on every show, WWE would hype his movie openings etc. It was terrible and pretty much everyone rejected it.

Nice thread. Absolutely. I remember HHH rarely wrestling on Raw, and when Shelton Benjamin pinned him with a roll up or something everyone went nuts. Now it would just be a fluke victory no one cared and next week the champion would get his win back.

It's. Not. A. Sport.

Anyway, I do wish the world champs like a Cena/Punk/whoever could have a similar schedule like Rock did.

They use to do it in the 80s hell Hulk Hogan
Macho Man and others appeared on talk shows
and such which made the Champ feel special
I did see Cena on tv so I guess there still
doing it but not as much.

Because triple h was a heel at the time while Benoit and Goldberg were faces

If anything, the celeb gimmick adds more heat to heels, cause lets face it celebrities are generally hated by the masses
